If you have asked three agencies for a website quote, you probably got three very different numbers. One said ₹20,000. Another said ₹1,20,000. A third said it depends. All three can be honest, because “a website” covers everything from a five-page business site to a custom platform.
This guide gives you the ranges published in India in 2026, explains what moves the price, and lists the yearly costs that most quotes leave out.
One note before we start. We could not find reliable pricing that is specific to Pune, so these are India-wide figures. Treat the numbers below as a starting point for your own quotes, not as a promise of what any Pune agency will charge.
What websites cost in India, by type
Published guides do not agree with each other, which is useful to know in itself. Here are two from 2026.
A Hostinger guide (updated February 2026) puts a small business site at ₹5,000 to ₹50,000. A professional business website of 10 to 20 pages comes to ₹80,000 to ₹1,50,000 in the same guide. Ecommerce sites run ₹1,50,000 to ₹4,00,000 or more, and custom platforms for startups start around ₹2,50,000.
A Coding Clave guide (March 2026) gives different numbers. It lists a basic 5 to 10 page business site at ₹25,000 to ₹1,00,000, a WordPress site at ₹15,000 to ₹60,000, and an ecommerce store at ₹50,000 to ₹3,00,000. A custom web application is ₹2,00,000 to ₹12,00,000.
Put together, a simple brochure-style business site usually lands somewhere between ₹15,000 and ₹1,50,000 depending on pages and design, an online store costs more, and anything built from scratch costs the most. The wide spread is real. It is not a sign that someone is lying.
What pushes the price up or down
Six things explain most of the gap between a low quote and a high one.
Design. A ready-made theme with your logo and colours costs far less than a layout designed around your business. One guide puts custom design work at an extra ₹25,000 to ₹1,50,000.
Number of pages. Every extra page needs writing, design and testing.
Features. A contact form is simple. Online payments, user logins, booking systems and links to other software all add time.
The platform. WordPress is usually the cheapest route to a site you can edit yourself. A fully custom build costs a lot more.
Your content. Delays in getting your text and photos to the agency can stretch the timeline and add to the cost, according to Coding Clave. Have your material ready before the project starts.
SEO setup. Basic setup, such as page titles and a sitemap, is often included. Ongoing SEO work is a separate service.
The yearly costs people forget
The build price is only the first bill. Plan for these every year.
- Domain name: about ₹500 to ₹1,500 a year.
- Hosting: ₹2,000 to ₹5,000 a year for shared hosting, and ₹3,000 to ₹8,000 for managed WordPress hosting, according to Hostinger. Coding Clave gives a wider range of ₹2,000 to ₹20,000.
- SSL certificate: most hosts include a free one, and paid certificates are listed at ₹800 to ₹15,000 a year. Ask whether the free one is included before paying for another.
- Maintenance: updates, backups and fixes. Hostinger lists ₹1,500 to ₹10,000 a year for freelancer support. Coding Clave lists ₹2,000 to ₹10,000 a month. That is a big difference, so ask exactly what is covered.
- Payment fees: if you take payments online, expect about 2% to 3% of each transaction to go to the payment provider.
How to compare quotes properly
A cheap quote and an expensive quote are only comparable if they cover the same things. Before you decide, ask each agency the same questions.
- How many pages are included, and who writes the text?
- Is the design custom or based on a template?
- Will the site work well on a phone? Many of your visitors will be on one.
- Who owns the domain and hosting account? It should be you.
- What happens after launch? Find out if support, backups and updates are included, and for how long.
- Is basic SEO setup included? That means page titles, descriptions and a sitemap.
If a quote is much lower than the others, check which of these items are missing. If it is much higher, check what you are paying extra for.
A sensible way to set your budget
Start with what the site needs to do. A site that only shows your services and lets people contact you needs far less than one that sells products. Then get two or three written quotes with the same list of requirements and compare line by line. Add the yearly costs above to see what the first two years will really cost.
