“How much does branding cost?” is one of the hardest questions to answer with a single number. A template logo and a full brand identity are both called “branding,” and the price gap between them can be very large.
We searched for current, reliable pricing for small-business branding in India. The published guides we found were either about large rebrands for mid-sized companies, written in US dollars, or several years old. We would rather not give you a rupee figure we cannot stand behind. So instead of a price list, this post shows you what a branding quote should contain, what changes the price, and how to compare offers fairly.
Logo and branding are not the same thing
A logo is one piece. Branding is the whole system around it. When you compare quotes, work out which of these you are being offered.
A logo only. One mark, usually in a few file formats. It is the cheapest option and often comes from a freelancer or a logo generator.
A logo plus a small brand kit. The logo, plus colours, fonts and basic rules for using them. This is the usual starting point for a small business.
A full brand identity. Research into your market and customers, a positioning and tone of voice, a logo with variations, brand guidelines, and designs for things like stationery, social media and packaging.
One US-based guide from September 2025 makes the same point: branding costs more than logo design because it adds strategy, messaging, a visual system, guidelines and the materials you will actually use. The dollar figures in that guide do not apply to India, but the structure does.
What changes the price
Who does the work. A freelancer, a small studio and a large agency price very differently, and they deliver different depth.
How much strategy is included. A designer who asks about your customers, competitors and goals does more work than one who sends three logo options from a short form.
The number of concepts and revisions. Some quotes include two rounds of changes. Others include unlimited changes. Check which one you are getting.
What you receive at the end. Logo files only, or a guidelines document, or a complete set of templates. This is the biggest difference between a low quote and a high one.
What you will use it for. A brand for a single shop sign is smaller than a brand that must work on a website, social media, packaging and a signboard.
What a good branding quote should list
Ask for a written quote and check that it names these items.
- How many logo concepts you will see.
- How many rounds of revisions are included.
- Which file formats you get, such as files for print and files for screens.
- Whether a brand guidelines document is included.
- Whether fonts and colours are specified, and whether any fonts need a separate licence.
- Who owns the final designs. You should.
- What extras cost, such as stationery, social media templates and packaging.
If any of these is missing, ask. A short quote with no list of deliverables is hard to compare with a longer one.
Questions to ask before you hire
- Can I see past work for businesses like mine?
- Who will actually design it: the person I am speaking with, or someone else?
- What do you need from me, and how long will the project take?
- What happens if I want changes after the revisions are used up?
- Do I get the editable source files?
A realistic way to plan your budget
Decide first what you need now. A new shop with a small budget may only need a logo, colours and fonts that it can use consistently. A business planning to grow into several services or cities may be better off with full guidelines from the start, because it saves redoing the work later.
Then ask two or three designers for written quotes against the same checklist and compare them line by line. If one quote is much lower, check which items are missing. If one is much higher, ask what extra you are getting.
