In short

Liftup Technologies builds ecommerce websites for Irish retailers, working remotely from India. We help choose between Shopify, WooCommerce and custom builds, then set up the catalogue, VAT-inclusive euro pricing, payments, shipping to the Republic, Northern Ireland and the EU, and the legal pages EU consumers expect. Calls are held in Irish hours, with a fixed quote after a short call.

Choosing a platform for an Irish shop

There is no single best platform, only the one that suits your range, team and growth plans. This table shows how we usually advise.

PlatformBest forWatch for
ShopifyMost small and mid-size retailers who want a hosted, quick-to-launch storeMonthly app costs and transaction fees if you do not use Shopify Payments
WooCommerceShops that already run on WordPress, or need deep control of content and dataYou manage hosting, updates and security
Headless or customLarge catalogues, unusual pricing or B2B rulesHigher build and upkeep cost
Marketplace onlyTesting demand before building a storeFees, limited branding and no customer list

Our Shopify vs WooCommerce comparison goes deeper, and the ecommerce website cost guide shows budget bands.

Think about who will run the shop day to day. A founder who edits products on a phone between customers needs a simple admin screen. A team with a dedicated merchandiser can cope with more options. We ask who adds products, who answers customer emails and who packs parcels, then choose tools that match those people rather than the loudest feature list.

Money, tax and payments

Consumers in Ireland expect to see the full price including VAT. The standard rate is 23 percent, with lower rates for some goods, so we set tax rules per product type and test them with sample orders. Invoices need the correct VAT details, and your accountant should check the export format.

Cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay cover most Irish checkouts, and Stripe supports these along with SEPA Direct Debit for repeat payments. A buy-now-pay-later option can help bigger baskets, but check the terms and your responsibilities under consumer credit rules. If you sell across the EU, the VAT One Stop Shop return can cover sales to consumers in other member states, and an accountant should confirm if it applies to you.

Consumer rules to build in

A shop that sells to consumers carries legal duties that a brochure site does not. We build the mechanics, and your solicitor should approve the wording.

  • Right to withdraw within 14 days of delivery for most goods bought online, with the return instructions on the order page and in the confirmation email.
  • Total price, delivery charges and the order button wording made clear before payment.
  • Registered company details, a privacy notice and consent for non-essential cookies, under GDPR and the ePrivacy Regulations 2011, which the Data Protection Commission enforces.
  • Accessibility: the European Accessibility Act has applied since 28 June 2025 to many online shops, with an exemption for very small businesses. We target WCAG 2.2 AA.
  • Genuine reviews only. Fake or hidden reviews breach consumer law.

Shipping, returns and local habits

Irish shoppers like clear delivery dates, tracked parcels, and an easy way to return. We set rate tables for the Republic, Northern Ireland, Britain and the EU, and add click-and-collect for stores with a physical branch. Rural addresses may take longer, so the estimate should show it. Eircode helps couriers find houses, so we make it a required field with a format check.

Seasonal peaks come in November and December, around the Late Late Toy Show and Black Friday, and again in the January sales. Load testing and stock rules should be in place before those dates. A page that sells out should say so and offer a back-in-stock email.

A Local Enterprise Office near you may offer supports for small firms trading online. Ask your office about current schemes and conditions, including whether the supplier must be in Ireland.

Returns deserve their own plan. Decide who pays for return postage, how long refunds take after the parcel arrives, and which goods are excluded, such as sealed hygiene items or made-to-order pieces. Put the policy in plain words on the product page, the checkout and the confirmation email. Clear terms cut support messages and avoid disputes with card issuers.

Project steps and price

  1. Plan the catalogueProduct data, variants, categories and a clean import file.
  2. BuildTheme or custom front end, tax, shipping, payments and legal pages.
  3. TestSample orders to Ireland, Northern Ireland and one EU country, plus refunds.
  4. LaunchRedirects from the old site, analytics with consent, and staff training.

Projects start at $1,500, with extra hours at $30. A small store with a purchased theme sits near the start. A large catalogue, B2B pricing, subscriptions or ERP links cost more. In winter India is 5.5 hours ahead of Ireland, and 4.5 hours ahead in summer, so reviews are scheduled in your morning. See our ecommerce solutions page.

After launch we watch the first fortnight closely: failed payments, abandoned baskets, shipping complaints and slow pages. Small fixes in that window often lift conversion more than a redesign would. The Search Console and analytics setup is ready on day one, so your product pages start building history straight away.

Questions, answered

Which platform is cheapest to run?
It depends on your volume and apps. Shopify has a predictable monthly fee, and WooCommerce has hosting and plugin costs. We estimate both for your case.
Can you migrate my existing shop?
Yes. We move products, customers and order history where the platform allows, and set up redirects to protect search traffic.
Can I sell to Northern Ireland and Britain?
Yes. Set separate shipping zones and check customs and VAT with your carrier and accountant, since post-Brexit rules apply.
Do you build marketplaces?
Yes, as a custom project. It is a larger scope with payouts, seller onboarding and extra legal duties.
Who owns the store and data?
You do. We build in your accounts and give you the logins.
How long does a typical store take?
A small store on a purchased theme is often ready in three to five weeks, depending on how quickly product photos and descriptions arrive. Larger catalogues take longer.
