Mobile apps in Ireland

Mobile app development for Irish businesses

An app for Irish customers has to pass two sets of rules: the app stores and EU privacy law. We build iOS and Android apps with one team and plan the store listing, consent and accessibility from the start.

In short

Liftup Technologies builds iOS and Android apps for Irish businesses, working remotely from India. We use React Native or Flutter for one shared codebase, connect it to your systems, and prepare the App Store and Google Play listings for Ireland. Privacy consent, accessibility and euro pricing are planned in from the start. Calls are booked in Irish hours, and a fixed quote follows a short call.

Is an app the right move?

Many Irish firms that ask for an app need a fast mobile site first. An app earns its place when customers return often, need push alerts, use the camera or location, or must work with poor signal. A trades business with quote requests, for example, usually does better with a good website. A gym, a delivery service or a field team with daily use is a stronger case.

Our PWA vs native comparison goes through the trade-offs in more detail.

Privacy rules an Irish app must plan for

Apps collect more than sites do: device IDs, location, contacts, photos and push tokens. The Data Protection Commission enforces GDPR in Ireland, and the ePrivacy Regulations 2011 cover cookies and similar identifiers on a device, and electronic marketing. Marketing push notifications are safest with clear opt-in.

  • Ask for permissions at the moment they are needed, not on first launch.
  • Apple's privacy labels and Google Play's data safety form must match what the app and its SDKs really collect.
  • Analytics and crash tools are processors, so they go in the privacy notice and a data processing agreement.
  • Ireland's digital age of consent is 16, so apps for teenagers need an age flow and parental consent for younger users.
  • A way to delete an account and its data, both for GDPR and because store rules ask for it.

None of this is legal advice. Your solicitor should review the notice, and we supply a clear list of what each SDK sends.

Accessibility and payments

The European Accessibility Act has applied since 28 June 2025 to consumer services such as online shopping and banking, including the apps that deliver them, with an exemption for very small service providers. We build to WCAG 2.2 AA principles: sensible touch targets, dynamic text sizes, screen reader labels and enough contrast.

For payments, Irish users expect cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay. Digital goods sold inside an app go through the store's own billing, while physical goods and services can use a processor such as Stripe. The rules change over time, so we check current store policy at the start of the project and again before submission.

Store listing, launch and upkeep

The listing is part of the product. For Ireland we write the store text in Irish English, show prices in euro with VAT where relevant, add screenshots with local content, and set the Irish storefront as the primary one. Reviews and first-week installs depend on a stable release, so we run a beta with real users on TestFlight and Google Play internal testing before going public.

  1. Scope and designA clickable prototype of the main journeys, agreed before any code is written.
  2. Build in sprintsTwo-week builds, each with a test version you can install on your own phone.
  3. Beta and fixesA small group of customers or staff use it for a week or two.
  4. Submit and supportStore submission, then a maintenance plan for operating system updates.

Both Apple and Google update their operating systems every year, so an app needs a small amount of work annually. Our app development service page covers what a maintenance plan includes.

If you are still deciding, a clickable prototype is cheaper than code. It lets staff and a few customers tap through the journeys, and it shows whether the app is needed at all. Our website design page for Ireland covers the web side if the answer is a better mobile site.

Working across the time zones and what it costs

India is 5.5 hours ahead of Ireland in winter and 4.5 hours ahead in summer. We schedule demos at the end of your morning so you can try a build with fresh eyes, and send a written note after each sprint. Public holidays differ: St Patrick's Day and the Irish bank holiday Mondays are non-working days for you, while we observe Indian festivals, and we mark both in the plan.

Projects start at $1,500, with extra hours at $30. A simple app with a few screens sits near the start. Login, payments, maps, offline use and a back-office panel increase it, as does the store account fees you pay to Apple and Google directly. We quote a fixed price after a short call.

Questions, answered

Do I need an Irish developer account for the stores?
You need an Apple Developer account and a Google Play developer account in your business name. Business accounts may ask for a D-U-N-S number. We help with the setup, and you own the accounts.
React Native or Flutter?
Both build for iOS and Android from one codebase. We choose based on your team's skills, the features you need and the libraries available, and explain the reason in the quote.
Can the app work offline?
Yes. We store data on the device and sync when the connection returns, which suits field teams and rural areas.
Who owns the source code?
You do. The repository, store accounts and keys are in your name, and we use access that you can remove.
Can you add an Irish-language option?
Yes. We build the app so the text can be translated, then add Irish once a fluent reviewer has checked it.
