In short

Liftup Technologies builds online stores for Dutch businesses, working remotely from India. We use Shopify, WooCommerce or a custom stack, with iDEAL and card payments, btw-inclusive pricing, PostNL, DHL and DPD shipping, and a return flow that respects the 14-day right to withdraw. After a short call you receive a fixed quote within one working day, and projects start at $1,500.

Choosing a platform

The platform should fit your catalogue, your team and your growth plan. Shopify suits most small and mid-sized stores that want speed and low upkeep. WooCommerce suits stores that already run on WordPress or need unusual product rules. A custom build makes sense for marketplaces, complex pricing or heavy integrations.

PlatformStrengthWatch for
ShopifyFast launch, managed hosting, strong app marketTransaction fees if you use an outside payment provider, and app costs that add up
WooCommerceFull control and a large plugin poolNeeds hosting, updates and security care
Custom or headlessTailored flows and speedHigher build and upkeep cost
Marketplace onlyBol.com reach without your own shopFees, and the customer relationship stays with the marketplace

Our Shopify vs WooCommerce comparison shows the trade-offs in more detail, and the ecommerce website cost guide shows how scope affects price.

Migration from an older platform deserves its own plan. Product URLs, reviews, customer accounts and order history must move without breaking search traffic, so we map every old address to its new one and test the redirects before the switch.

Payments, tax and checkout

Dutch shoppers expect iDEAL first. Cards, PayPal, Klarna and Apple Pay matter too, and many stores add pay-by-invoice for business buyers. The European payments industry plans a move from iDEAL towards Wero, so keep the integration inside a provider such as Mollie, Adyen or Stripe, and ask them how the change will be handled.

Consumer prices are shown including btw, normally 21%, with a reduced 9% rate for some goods. Business customers may need invoices with their company details and reverse-charge handling for sales to other EU countries. Cross-border consumer sales within the EU can fall under the One Stop Shop scheme, which your accountant should confirm.

Shipping, returns and trust

  • Carriers: PostNL, DHL and DPD are common choices, with pickup points popular in cities. Show delivery windows honestly.
  • Returns: consumers have 14 days to withdraw from an online purchase, and the return process should be easy to find. Your lawyer should check the wording of your terms.
  • Trust: the Thuiswinkel Waarborg mark signals that a shop follows a set of rules. Display it only if you are a member.
  • Reviews: show real customer reviews and do not hide negative ones.
  • Accessibility: the European Accessibility Act has applied since 28 June 2025 to many online shops, so we build to WCAG 2.2 AA and test checkout by keyboard.

Delivery promises are a conversion lever. Dutch shoppers are used to next-day delivery from big retailers, so stating a realistic cut-off time, stock status and delivery window on product pages reduces abandoned carts. If you cannot match the fastest competitor, be clear about timing and offer pickup or a free-shipping threshold.

Bol.com and other channels

Bol.com is the largest general marketplace in the Netherlands and Belgium, and many Dutch shoppers start their search there. Selling on it can bring orders, but fees apply and price pressure is high. We connect your product data so one stock figure feeds both your own store and the marketplace, and we advise which products belong on each. Your own shop remains the place to build repeat customers and email lists.

Build process

  1. PlanCatalogue, shipping rules, payment providers and integrations, in one short document.
  2. DesignHome, category, product, cart and checkout screens in Dutch, with an English option if needed.
  3. Build and importTheme or custom build, product import, tax and shipping setup, and email templates.
  4. TestTest orders with each payment method, mobile tests and an accessibility pass.
  5. LaunchGo-live plan, redirects from any old store, and a week of close monitoring.

Search should be planned from the start. See ecommerce SEO in the Netherlands and Shopify development in the Netherlands for the next steps.

We hand over a short admin guide with screenshots for adding products, handling orders and issuing refunds, and we record a walkthrough video so new staff can learn the shop without waiting for us.

Pricing and hours

Projects start at $1,500, and our rate is $30 an hour. A small catalogue on Shopify is at the start of the range. Large catalogues, custom features, multiple languages and integrations raise the price. Payment provider and platform fees are billed to you directly. The service is described on the ecommerce solutions page. The Netherlands is 3.5 to 4.5 hours behind India, so reviews happen in your morning.

Questions, answered

Which platform is best for a new Dutch store?
Shopify is the usual starting point for speed and low upkeep. WooCommerce or a custom build can be better for special requirements. We recommend after a short call.
Can the store accept iDEAL?
Yes, through a payment provider that supports it. We test the full flow, including a failed payment, before launch.
Can you connect my store to Bol.com?
Yes, through a feed or an integration tool. We map products and stock so both channels stay in step.
Do you migrate an existing store?
Yes. We move products, customers and orders where the platforms allow, and set redirects to protect search traffic.
Will the shop be in Dutch and English?
Yes if you want it. Each language gets its own URLs and hreflang tags.
