In short

Liftup Technologies builds AI automation for New Zealand businesses, working remotely from India. We connect tools such as your CRM, email, accounting and forms using n8n, Make, Zapier and the OpenAI or Anthropic (Claude) APIs, with human approval steps and logs. We design around the Privacy Act 2020 and the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act. You get a fixed quote after a short call.

Automations that suit New Zealand teams

Small and mid-sized Kiwi firms often run on a handful of tools stitched together by people. Enquiries arrive by email, form and Facebook message. Quotes are typed in a spreadsheet. Invoices are raised in accounting software such as Xero. Every handover is a place where work waits or gets lost. Automation removes the waiting without removing the people.

Privacy Act 2020 and data flows

An automation moves personal information between systems, so the Privacy Act 2020 applies to each step. Before building, we draw a data-flow map: what leaves which system, where it lands, who can see it and how long it stays. That map becomes part of your privacy documentation.

  • Only the fields the task needs go to an AI model. Names and contact details are removed where the task does not require them.
  • Automation platforms and model APIs usually run outside New Zealand. Information privacy principle 12 covers disclosure abroad, so we record the arrangement and provider terms. Ask your lawyer to confirm what applies to you.
  • Credentials are stored in the platform's secret store, not in workflow text, and each tool gets the least access it needs.
  • Run logs are kept for a set period, then deleted.

If something goes wrong and personal data is exposed, the Act's breach notification rules may apply, including telling the Privacy Commissioner. We agree an escalation path before go-live.

Email, SMS and marketing automation

Any automation that sends commercial messages must respect the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007: recipients need to have consented or be in a clear existing relationship, the sender must be identified and each message needs a working unsubscribe. We build consent fields and suppression lists into follow-up sequences, so a person who opts out stays out across every tool.

Automated replies also carry legal weight. Under the Fair Trading Act 1986, misleading statements about price, availability or terms are a risk whether a person or a machine wrote them. So AI-drafted messages that quote prices pull the numbers from your own price list rather than inventing them.

How a project runs

  1. Pick one processChoose a task that happens weekly, has clear inputs and is owned by one person.
  2. Map and measureWrite down the current steps and time them, so you can see what improved.
  3. Build and test on safe dataRun the workflow on sample records, then on a small share of live work.
  4. MonitorAlerts for failures, a log you can read and a named person who is told when it breaks.

New Zealand is 6.5 hours ahead of India in winter and 7.5 hours ahead in summer, so a call at 4 pm in Wellington lands in the Pune morning. We work remotely and have no office in New Zealand. Our AI automation ROI calculator helps estimate the time a workflow could save.

Cost

Projects start at $1,500 and our rate is $30 an hour, in US dollars. The quote depends on how many systems are connected, how messy the input data is, the number of approval steps and any custom code. Platform subscriptions and model usage are billed separately by the providers. Read the AI automation cost guide for typical drivers, and ask your accountant how GST applies to services from an overseas supplier.

Start small. Many Kiwi teams get the best result from one workflow that saves a few hours each week, such as sorting the shared inbox or chasing unpaid invoices, rather than a large programme that touches everything. Once that workflow has run for a month and staff trust it, the next one is easier to scope and cheaper to build.

Questions, answered

Which tools do you build with?
n8n, Make and Zapier for workflow logic, and the OpenAI or Anthropic APIs for reading and drafting text. We pick the tool that fits your volume, data rules and budget.
Can it connect to Xero?
Usually yes, through the accounting tool's API or an existing connector in the automation platform. We test with sample data before touching live books.
Is my data sent overseas?
Often yes, because most automation and AI services run outside New Zealand. We document the flow and provider terms so you can address information privacy principle 12 with your lawyer.
What if the AI gets something wrong?
Important steps have a human approval stage, outputs are checked against your own data and every run is logged, so errors are spotted and traced.
How soon can we see a result?
A first working workflow often takes one to three weeks, depending on integrations. The quote gives a date range.
