AI voice agents for construction
AI receptionist for construction companies
A general contractor's phone is not a sales line. It is a switchboard for subs, suppliers, inspectors and clients. A voice agent sorts the traffic so project managers answer only the calls that need them.

In short
An AI receptionist for a construction company sorts incoming calls by who is calling: a client, a subcontractor, a supplier, an inspector or a new bid request. It logs delivery changes, passes site issues to the right project manager, and captures the details of new project enquiries. Liftup Technologies builds it with a fixed quote after a short call.
Who actually phones a contractor
Companies in this trade tend to underestimate how much of their phone time is administrative. A residential remodeler gets homeowners. A commercial general contractor gets almost everyone else: subcontractors asking about schedules, suppliers confirming deliveries, building inspectors rebooking, architects with questions, and, now and then, a client with a new project. The office manager or project engineer becomes the human switchboard.
This differs from our pages for plumbers or roofers, where most calls are new customers. Here the value is routing and record-keeping: every call ends as a clear message in the right person's hands, with the project name attached, instead of a note on a scrap of paper that nobody reads until Monday. The base method is on our AI voice agent development page.
Callers, intents and where each call goes
| Caller | Typical reason | Agent action | Goes to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Subcontractor | Schedule change, pay application question | Logs project name and message, answers only from a schedule you share | Project manager or accounts |
| Supplier or driver | Delivery window, site access | Confirms the window, logs changes, flags same-day shifts | Site superintendent by SMS |
| Inspector or authority | Reschedule an inspection | Takes details and rings the superintendent | Superintendent, live transfer |
| Client under contract | Progress or change order | Identifies the project and passes a message | The named project manager |
| New project enquiry | Bid or quote request | Collects scope, location, budget band, deadline, plans link | Estimating lead |
| Job seeker or vendor sales | Employment or product pitch | Directs to the careers email or ends politely | No staff time |
Site safety calls
Construction sites have hazards that most small offices do not. An injury, a utility strike or a crane problem is not a task for an automated assistant, and nobody should expect one to manage it. The agent has one job here: recognise the words, say that help is being alerted, and ring your emergency contact tree. It does not give first aid advice or decide anything. We write that rule with your safety officer, and many firms already have a written emergency plan we can follow.
Work safety rules vary by country and state. Your safety officer or adviser should approve the escalation script.

Get my free quoteBid requests and the pre-qualification form
Estimators lose hours to bid requests that do not fit: the wrong trade, the wrong region, a deadline already past, or plans that were never attached. A firm that has to say no politely and fast saves those hours. The agent asks a few qualifying questions, such as project type, location, size band, delivery method and plan availability, and sends a summary. It can email a link to your pre-qualification form. It does not discuss price or commit your firm to bidding.
Because the agent captures the same fields each time, the estimating lead can compare enquiries side by side instead of decoding voicemails. It can write into the tool your estimators already use, for example a CRM, a shared sheet or a bid-management system. We connect one system at launch and add others later.
Rolling it out remotely
- Map the callersWe interview your office manager and two project managers, then sort a month of calls.
- Build the directoryProject names, managers and mobile numbers go into one list that the office edits.
- Test with staffSubs and suppliers you trust place test calls.
- Switch on in stagesStart with after-hours, then lunchtime overflow, then full coverage.
Price
Projects start at $1,500, and our rate is $30 an hour. A directory-based routing agent is a modest build. Bid qualification, CRM links and several offices add hours. We send a fixed quote within one working day of a short call. Telephony fees go to the provider and recur monthly, and a firm with a single office number and a small directory can often launch with the minimum scope and expand into bids later. Our cost guide for voice agents lists the other variables.

AI voice agent development: phone calls answered in natural speech, with a person on standby
A voice agent lives or dies on timing and on what it does when it does not understand. We design for both, and we are cautious about outbound calling.
Pricing guideHow much does an AI voice agent cost in 2026?
A voice agent is billed by the minute as well as built once. Price it in two parts: the build, and what every minute of talk costs to run.
