AI agents for ecommerce
AI agents for ecommerce brands: returns, orders and catalog upkeep
Store owners rarely need a chat widget that says hello. They need someone to process the return, find the lost parcel, fix 400 product descriptions and flag the bestseller that is about to sell out. That is agent work.

In short
An ecommerce AI agent connects to your store platform, helpdesk, shipping tools and inventory data, then resolves routine requests such as where is my order, return labels, exchanges and address changes. It also keeps catalog data tidy and warns when stock runs low. Liftup Technologies builds these agents with refund limits and approval rules you set, so money never moves without a rule or a person behind it.
Support tickets that are really lookups
Open the inbox of a growing online store and most tickets fall into five groups: where is my order, I want to return this, I want to change my address, this arrived damaged, and does this come in another size. Each one needs data from two or three systems and a rule. Staff do the lookup by hand, copy a template and paste.
An agent does the lookup itself. For a where-is-my-order message it reads the order in Shopify or WooCommerce, checks the carrier's tracking, and writes a reply with the real status. If the parcel has been stuck for a set number of days it opens a claim with the carrier or prepares a replacement for approval.
Ticket type by ticket type
| Request | What the agent can do | Limit we set | Escalate when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Order status | Look up order and tracking, reply | Read only | Tracking shows no movement for your set number of days |
| Return or exchange | Check the policy window and item, create the return label | Auto-approve inside the window and under a value cap | Outside the window, high value, or repeat returner |
| Damaged item | Ask for photos, log them, offer the policy remedy | Refund or replace up to a cap | Above the cap, or photos unclear |
| Address change | Update the order if not yet fulfilled | Only before the pick list is created | Order already packed |
| Product question | Answer from catalog data and size guides | Cites the product page | Question about safety, allergens or compatibility not in the data |
Caps and windows live in a settings file your team can edit. Change the cap from $50 to $100 and the agent follows the new rule that afternoon.
Behind the scenes: catalog and stock
Customer messages are the visible part. The quieter gain is catalog work. An agent can draft product descriptions from supplier spec sheets in your brand voice, generate alt text, standardize sizes and colors across suppliers and flag listings with missing fields before they hurt your search listings or marketplace feeds. A person approves each batch.
Inventory is the other half. The agent compares sales velocity with supplier lead times and flags products likely to stock out before a reorder arrives, with a drafted purchase order for your buyer. It does not place orders on its own unless you set a cap and a supplier allow-list.

Retail volume bunches. Black Friday and the holiday weeks multiply tickets in a short period, and sales events are when a small team is least able to read every message. The agent copes with the lookup-style load, and we recommend a load test using last year's busiest week of tickets before the season starts.
- Refund and cancellation rules: consumer law differs between the US states, the UK, the EU, Ireland and Australia, for example on cooling-off periods and faulty goods. The agent follows the policy you write, so have it reviewed by a lawyer or consumer-law adviser.
- Payment data: the agent never sees card numbers. It works with order IDs and your payment provider's own refund interface, which keeps you out of extra card-data scope.
- Fraud signals: it can flag odd patterns, such as many refunds to one address, for human review. It does not ban customers by itself.
- Personal data: customer emails and addresses are processed under GDPR or UK GDPR where those apply, and the processing agreement with each vendor should say so.
Platforms, timeline and price
We build on Shopify, WooCommerce and custom carts, with helpdesks such as Gorgias or Zendesk and email tools such as Klaviyo. Return flows can run through your existing returns app by API. If your store needs front-end changes first, our Shopify development work can sit alongside the agent.
A support-lookup agent usually reaches a supervised pilot within a few weeks. Projects start at $1,500 at $30 an hour, with a fixed quote within one working day of a short call. Cost rises with the number of ticket types, the number of systems and how much testing your refund policy needs.
