AI agents for veterinarians

AI agents for veterinary clinics

Vet front desks juggle worried owners, drop-offs and ringing phones. An agent can sort the calls, book the routine visits and send vaccine reminders, while anything urgent reaches a nurse or vet straight away.

In short

Liftup Technologies builds AI agents for veterinary clinics that triage incoming messages and calls into emergency, urgent, routine and admin. The agent books routine visits, takes refill requests for staff approval and sends vaccine and check-up reminders. It never gives diagnoses or dosing advice. Emergencies are escalated to your on-call team immediately. We work remotely from Pune and quote a fixed price.

Why vet front desks are a hard case

A dental or salon desk deals in appointments. A vet desk deals in worry. The same phone line carries a vaccine booking, a dog that ate chocolate an hour ago and a request for another month of arthritis tablets. The wrong call on the second one matters a great deal.

That shapes how an agent must be built. Its first job is not to answer but to recognise what it should not answer. Everything we build for clinics starts from the escalation rules your vets write.

How the agent sorts contacts

Contact typeExampleWhat the agent does
EmergencyHit by a car, seizure, trouble breathing, suspected poisonGives your emergency number and address, alerts the on-call phone, asks nothing else
Urgent, same dayVomiting twice, limping, eye injuryCollects species, age and symptoms, flags a nurse to call back within your target time
Routine bookingAnnual vaccines, nail trim, puppy checkOffers slots for the right appointment length and books
Prescription refillRepeat of long-term medicationCollects pet and drug name, creates a request for a vet to approve
AdminInvoice copy, change of address, records transferHandles or routes to the practice manager

The emergency row is deliberately short. The agent does not try to assess, calm or advise. It connects the owner to a human as fast as your setup allows.

What we build

  • A message and call-handling agent for your website chat, WhatsApp, SMS and, if you want it, a voice line (see our AI voice agents page).
  • Appointment booking against your practice management system where it has an API. Examples include ezyVet, Cornerstone and Provet Cloud. If it does not, the agent writes a booking request for the desk to confirm.
  • Reminder logic for vaccines, boosters, dental checks and flea and worming plans, using the dates in your records and the consent you hold.
  • A staff review queue for refill requests and for any case the agent marked uncertain.
  • A written list of phrases that always trigger escalation, which your vets edit themselves.

Limits we set on purpose

The agent does not diagnose, name drugs or give doses, and it does not tell an owner to wait and see. Rules for who may give veterinary advice, and for remote consultations, differ by country and state, so your vets and professional body decide what the agent may say. We build to that list.

Owners send photos and personal details. Under privacy laws such as the UK and Irish GDPR, the Australian Privacy Act and state laws in the US, you still need a clear notice about how messages are stored and which tools see them. We provide a plain data map you can show your practice manager or lawyer.

Check with your lawyer or professional body for the exact rules in your region.

How a project runs

  1. Write the rules with your vetsOne call to set the emergency list, the urgent callback time and the appointment lengths for each reason for visit.
  2. Test on old messagesWe run the agent over a sample of past messages with names removed and mark every case it would have sorted differently from your staff.
  3. Shadow periodStaff see the agent's proposed category and reply. Nothing is sent without a click, except the emergency number.
  4. Limited go-liveRoutine bookings and reminders go out alone. Refills and urgent cases stay with staff.

We book calls in your clinic hours across the US, UK, Australia and Ireland, and the agent's decision log is available to your practice manager.

Price and what moves it

Projects start at $1,500, billed on a fixed quote at $30 an hour of work. A single clinic with one booking system and one message channel sits near the minimum. Extra channels, a voice line, multi-site rules, boarding or grooming bookings and a record system without an API all add effort. You receive the fixed figure within a working day of our short call.

Message and model usage are monthly costs we list separately. See the AI agent cost guide for what changes the figure, and the main AI agent development page for how we test agents.

Questions, answered

Can the agent tell if a pet is in danger?
It matches words and patterns against the emergency list your vets write, and when in doubt it escalates. It does not assess the animal. Treat it as a fast routing layer, not a clinical tool.
Will it work after hours?
Yes. After hours it can book routine visits, take refill requests for the morning and, for emergencies, give your out-of-hours partner's details and alert the on-call phone.
Does it replace our receptionists?
No. It takes the repeat, simple contacts so receptionists can spend time with owners in the clinic, which is where they matter most.
Can it read our existing records?
Only if your practice system allows it, and only the fields we agree, for example next vaccine due date. We start with read access and add writing later.
What happens if the agent is wrong?
Every decision is logged with the message and the reason. Staff can correct a category in one click and that case joins the test set, so mistakes make the agent safer over time.
