AI chatbots for SaaS
AI chatbots for SaaS companies
Your docs have the answer, but users do not read them. An in-app assistant that finds the right article, knows the user's plan and escalates with the full context cuts repeat tickets without hiding your support team.

In short
An AI chatbot for a SaaS product answers how-to and troubleshooting questions from your help center, API docs and release notes, aware of the user's plan and settings. It cites the article it used, creates a ticket with context when it cannot help and never changes account data without confirmation. Liftup Technologies builds it into your app or help center. Projects start at $1,500.
Support load grows with your user base
Every new feature adds docs, and every new customer adds questions: how do I connect the API, why did the export fail, where do I change my billing email. Many tickets are answered by an existing article, but the customer did not find it. Support engineers then paste the same links all day.
The right target is not zero tickets. It is fewer repeats, faster first answers and better tickets when a human is needed. That means the bot must be honest about what it does not know.
How an in-product assistant differs
A public website bot answers pre-sales questions, and we cover that in AI chatbots for B2B companies. A product assistant has a different job. It sits inside the logged-in app, where it can see who the user is, which plan they are on and sometimes what they were doing.
| Capability | Docs-only bot | Account-aware assistant |
|---|---|---|
| Explains features | Yes, from the help center | Yes, filtered by plan |
| Knows the user's plan | No | Yes, so it does not suggest unavailable features |
| Reads recent errors | No | Yes, from logs the user may see |
| Changes settings | No | Only with confirmation, for low-risk settings |
| Ticket creation | Generic form | Pre-filled with plan, version, steps tried |
| Security effort | Low | Higher: scoped access, audit trail |
What we build
- Retrieval from your help center, API reference, changelog and community answers, with a link to the source article in each reply.
- Plan and role awareness, so a free user is not told to use an enterprise feature and an admin sees admin steps.
- Troubleshooting dialogues that ask for the error message, browser or SDK version and walk through documented fixes.
- Developer help for code questions, with sample snippets drawn only from your documentation.
- Handoff to Intercom, Zendesk, Help Scout or Freshdesk with the conversation, account ID and steps tried.
- A feedback loop: thumbs up or down on every answer, and a weekly list of questions the docs failed to answer.
The documentation list is itself a result. Questions the bot cannot answer show exactly which articles you should write, and we send you that list. For the retrieval method see RAG chatbot development.

A bot with account access needs tight limits. Calls to your API run with the signed-in user's own permissions, never a master key. Actions that change data need an explicit confirmation step, and risky actions such as deleting data stay out of chat. We log which sources and calls produced each answer, which helps with customer security reviews and SOC 2 evidence. Our AI agent security checklist lists the controls.
Data handling needs a clear statement for customers. We send only the text and fields a reply needs to the model provider, use settings that avoid training on your data and respect regional storage promises. GDPR and UK GDPR apply to chat transcripts from EU and UK users, so transcripts carry a retention period.
Build plan
- Ticket analysisWe sort the last few months of tickets by topic to see which a bot can answer.
- Docs clean-upOut-of-date or duplicated articles are fixed first, since the bot repeats what it finds.
- Build the retrieval layerIndex, chunking and citation, with a test set of real questions.
- Add account awarenessSigned-in context passed in, with read-only calls first.
- Beta with a customer segmentCompare resolution rates and complaints before a full rollout.

Cost
A help-center assistant with citations and ticket handoff can start near our $1,500 minimum. Account-aware answers, in-app embedding, multiple languages or a large documentation set add hours at $30 an hour. We give a fixed quote within one working day of a short call. Documentation quality and your API's readiness are the biggest levers. Running costs are model usage and any chat vendor fees, which we forecast from your ticket volume. See AI chatbot cost and RAG chatbot cost for the broader picture.
