SEO for bakeries

SEO for bakeries: fill the order book, not just the shop window

Walk-in trade comes from the street. Cake orders, wedding enquiries and wholesale come from search. We build the pages that bring those higher-value orders to a small bakery.

In short

Bakery SEO focuses on the orders that fill a calendar: custom cakes, wedding cakes, catering trays, corporate boxes and wholesale. Liftup Technologies builds pages with lead times, flavours, sizes, allergen information and an enquiry form that asks the right questions, then times content for the seasons. We work remotely from Pune, with projects from $1,500 and a fixed quote.

Where the money is in a bakery

A loaf or a croissant brings a customer through the door but rarely needs a website. A birthday cake, a wedding cake or a weekly wholesale order does. These buyers search ahead, compare photos, check allergen details and want a price range before they ring. They are the customers a bakery site should serve.

Many bakery sites are a menu photo and a phone number. That means the best-paid work goes to competitors with a clearer page. This page is about the site as a whole; for the map and profile side, see our separate local SEO services.

Look at the calendar to see how much a single cake page can matter. A bakery that fills six wedding cake dates a month, each worth a few hundred dollars, has a very different business from one that relies on walk-in trade alone, and the wedding cake page is the first thing those couples read.

Photos, menus and order forms

Bakery photography does the selling. Each cake page needs clear, well-lit photos with a plain description of flavour and size. Name the files and write alt text such as lemon drizzle layer cake with white chocolate shavings. Menus should be text on the page, not only a PDF or an image, so search engines and people on phones can read them.

The order form is the key point of conversion. It should ask for date needed, size or servings, flavour, dietary needs, delivery or pick-up and a budget range. A form with a date field saves you from replying to enquiries you cannot fill. If you take orders through a platform such as Square or Shopify, for example, we link the pages to it and keep the product names consistent.

Delivery adds detail. State your delivery area, fees, and the time slots you offer. Many cake enquiries stall because the baker never says whether delivery is possible.

Allergens and accuracy

Allergen information is a safety matter. Rules on what you must label and display vary, and the UK, EU, US and Australia each have their own. Check with your local food safety authority. On the site, state clearly that products are made in a kitchen that handles common allergens, and invite customers to ask before ordering. We never write claims such as allergen-free unless you confirm that your process and regulators allow them.

Where we name flavours and fillings on a page, we use the words your customers use, such as red velvet, salted caramel or lemon curd, because those are the words they type.

Seasonal planning

Bakery demand has fixed dates: Valentine's Day, Easter, Mother's Day, Thanksgiving or other regional feasts, Christmas, and wedding season in the warmer months. We plan seasonal pages to be live and indexed six to eight weeks before orders open, keep the same URL each year and update the details. Last year's page keeps its history, which is why a permanent URL beats a new one.

  1. Menu and photo reviewWe choose the top products and cake types and list what is missing.
  2. Build the pagesText, forms and structured data are set up with your order system.
  3. Seasonal calendarA simple yearly plan of which page needs updating when.
  4. Monthly checkEnquiries by page and date, and what to adjust before the next season.

Price guidance

Projects start at $1,500 and our rate is $30 an hour. A bakery with six or seven pages and an order form is near the base. Online shopping with delivery, or several shops, costs more. We give a fixed quote within one working day of a short call. See the parent SEO services page and the cost of SEO guide.

Questions, answered

Do we need online ordering?
Not for every bakery. A good enquiry form with a date field is enough for custom cakes. Online ordering suits standard products and pre-orders for holidays.
Should we show prices?
Yes, as starting prices or ranges. It reduces enquiries from people outside your budget and increases the quality of those who contact you.
How do we rank for gluten-free or vegan?
Create a page that describes exactly what you make and how you handle cross-contact. Only claim what your kitchen can support.
Is Instagram enough?
It shows your work but is hard to search and slow to answer questions. A site with prices and forms turns the interest into orders.
Can SEO help with wholesale?
Yes. Cafes and shops search for suppliers in their area. A wholesale page with delivery days and minimums gets enquiries that a retail page does not.
