In short
SEO for startups starts with a narrow set of searches close to your first customers, a clean technical foundation and a handful of strong pages, not a content calendar of fifty posts. Liftup Technologies maps those searches, builds the pages and reports from Search Console. Projects start at $1,500, and we will tell you if paid, partnerships or outbound would work faster for your stage.
Why SEO feels slow for a young company
A new domain has no history, few links and no brand searches. Competitors with years of content beat it on any broad phrase. Expecting traffic in the first month sets founders up for disappointment. In our experience as an agency, the first useful signals tend to appear within a few months on narrow phrases, and growth on competitive ones comes later.
That does not make SEO wrong for a startup. It makes the order important: pages that convert the few visitors you get, then pages that widen reach.
A useful rule is to rank where the competition is weaker than you are. Compare your site against the first-page results for five target phrases and ask honestly whether any page there is a small site like yours. If every result is a large publisher or a ten-year-old brand, pick a narrower phrase or a different channel for now.
Which channel first?
| Your situation | Lead with | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-launch, no product yet | A simple site, waitlist and brand basics | There is nothing to rank for; protect the name and collect interest |
| Launched, low budget, niche problem | SEO on narrow problem and comparison searches | Specific phrases have less competition and convert |
| Launched, need signups this quarter | Paid search or outbound, with SEO in parallel | Ads give data and revenue while pages mature |
| Crowded category, big rivals | Partnerships, communities and a focused SEO angle | Head terms are out of reach for now |
| Selling to a few large accounts | Account-based outreach, plus thought-leadership pages | Volume does not matter; credibility does |
Our SEO versus PPC comparison goes deeper on the trade-offs. If you are still building the product, our MVP development team can help you ship something worth ranking.
The first ninety days
- FoundationFast, crawlable site, clean URLs, Search Console, analytics and a clear home page that states who the product is for.
- Money pagesThree to five pages tied to your product: a use case or two, a comparison with the tool people use today, and a pricing explainer.
- EvidenceCustomer quotes, screenshots, a short demo video and honest notes on who the product is not for.
- DistributionFounder posts, community answers and relevant directories to earn the first links and brand searches.
We deliberately skip tactics that waste startup time: generic blog volume, bought links and keyword stuffing.
Measure from day one. Install analytics and Search Console before launch, define one conversion (a signup, a demo request or a waitlist join) and record it. Early data from a few hundred visits is not statistically strong, but it tells you which pages people read and where they leave, and that guides the next five pages better than any keyword tool.

- Choosing a clever brand name that nobody searches and not adding the plain description anywhere.
- Building the marketing site in a framework that renders only in the browser, so the content is hard to read for crawlers.
- Leaving the staging site open to indexing, or the opposite: shipping production with a noindex tag.
- Writing for investors instead of buyers, so no page answers a buyer's question.
- Tracking visits but not signups, so nobody knows which pages work.
Fixing these is cheaper than any content plan. Our technical SEO checklist lists the checks we run in the first week.
Price and how we work
Projects start at $1,500 and our rate is $30 an hour. A startup can begin with a foundation and five pages, then add monthly work as revenue allows. For a rough view of cost drivers, see our startup website cost guide. The main SEO services page describes how reporting works.
We work with founders directly, usually through a weekly call in your time zone and a shared document for drafts.
