Restaurant website pricing

How much does a restaurant website cost?

The site itself is usually the smaller part. What moves the price is how guests order and book: through a link to a third-party service, or through a system built into your own site.

In short

Clutch reports that web projects typically cost under $10,000, with an average of $66,499 across all web work. A restaurant site with a menu, hours, photos and a booking link sits at the low end. Built-in online ordering, several locations or loyalty features push it up. Liftup Technologies starts at $1,500 and gives a fixed quote within one working day.

What guests do on a restaurant site

People visit a restaurant site on a phone, often while walking or already in a car. They want five things fast: the menu, the opening hours, the address and a way to get there, a way to book or order, and a phone number. Everything else is secondary.

That list shapes the cost. A site that serves those five things well is a small build. Each extra system you connect, such as an ordering platform or a gift card shop, adds setup, testing and yearly fees.

Ordering and booking: the biggest decision

You have two routes for online ordering and table booking. You can link to a specialist service, for example a reservation or ordering platform you already use. Or you can build the function into your own site.

Ask each supplier who owns the customer list and where order data is stored. Platform fees and terms change, so read them before you rely on one.

Menu pages that cost less to run

A menu uploaded as a PDF is cheap on day one and painful afterwards. PDFs are hard to read on phones, search engines read them poorly and guests cannot translate them easily. A menu built as web text with clear sections reads well on any screen and can be updated in minutes.

  • Ask for a menu you can edit yourself, without calling the developer.
  • Ask how seasonal changes and sold-out items are handled.
  • List allergen and dietary labels where your local rules ask for them. Rules vary by country, so check with your local authority.
  • Keep prices on the page if you can. Guests dislike having to guess.

Costs after the build

  • Domain and hosting, billed yearly or monthly.
  • Ordering, booking or gift card platform fees.
  • Photography. Good food photos often matter more than any design choice.
  • Menu updates, whether you do them or pay for them.
  • Search work. A strong local SEO basics set-up, including your Google Business Profile, is how nearby diners find you.
  • Accessibility checks, so guests who use screen readers or keyboards can book and read the menu.

How to compare quotes

  1. Check each quote names the number of pages and the ordering and booking route.
  2. Ask whether menu editing by your staff is included.
  3. Ask who supplies photos and text.
  4. Ask if the site works well on a phone with a poor signal, since many guests search on the move.
  5. Ask what you keep if you leave: domain, content, accounts and files.

A very low quote may leave out photos, menu setup or search basics. A very high one may bundle systems you do not need.

Questions, answered

What is a reasonable budget for a restaurant website?
Clutch reports typical web projects under $10,000. A restaurant site with menu pages and a booking link is near the lower end. Ordering built into your own site raises it.
Do I need online ordering on my own website?
Not always. Linking to a service you already use is cheaper and faster. Build your own if you want to own customer data and avoid per-order platform fees.
Can I update the menu myself?
You should be able to. Ask for menu editing in the admin area as part of the quote.
How long does it take to build?
A simple site can take a few weeks once photos and menu text are ready. Ordering systems and multiple locations take longer.
Should a restaurant have a blog?
Not necessarily. A events page and seasonal menu updates matter more than articles.
