In short

Liftup Technologies develops online stores for Swedish businesses, working remotely from India. We help you choose between Shopify, WooCommerce and a custom build, then set up Swedish checkout and payments, carrier options, product import, accounting integration and legal pages. A fixed quote follows a short call, and the shop and accounts remain yours.

Choosing the platform for a Swedish shop

There is no single right answer. A shop with fifty products and a small team is usually best on Shopify. A content-heavy business that already runs WordPress may prefer WooCommerce. A shop with unusual pricing, B2B accounts or deep integrations may need custom work on a headless setup.

OptionSuitsSwedish point to check
ShopifyMost small and mid-size consumer stores, fast launchAvailability of Swish and local checkout providers on your plan; apps add monthly fees
WooCommerceStores with heavy content, custom logic or existing WordPressMaintenance and security are your responsibility; mature Klarna and Nets-type plugins exist
Custom or headlessB2B portals, complex catalogs, multi-market setupsHigher cost; every integration is built, including payments and tax

Our comparison of Shopify vs WooCommerce goes deeper, and our ecommerce solutions page lists the general scope.

Whichever platform you choose, keep the catalog clean from the start. Short product names, consistent attributes such as size and color, and one source for stock levels save more time later than any plugin. Price comparison services such as Prisjakt and PriceRunner read product feeds, so a tidy feed also helps you appear where Swedish shoppers compare prices.

What a Swedish checkout needs

  • Prices in SEK including moms for consumers. The standard rate is 25 percent; food, books and some other categories carry lower rates, so product tax classes are set one by one.
  • Payment: cards, Klarna and Swish cover most shoppers. Other Swedish checkout providers exist for stores that want an all-in-one solution; contract terms differ.
  • Delivery: choice of home delivery or pickup point, a clear delivery time per option and tracking links. Carrier booking tools can connect your shop to several carriers.
  • Consumer law: the 14-day right to withdraw from a distance purchase, a visible returns process, company name, address and organisationsnummer, and complete terms. Your lawyer should approve the text.
  • Order confirmation emails in Swedish that include the withdrawal information.

For selling to other EU countries, VAT rules for distance sales apply through the One-Stop Shop scheme. Talk to your accountant before turning on other markets.

Returns deserve a design of their own. Swedish shoppers expect a clear return route, and many carriers offer return labels you can include in the parcel or send by email. State who pays for the return before checkout, so the policy never comes as a surprise.

Integrations Swedish stores usually want

A shop that sells but does not talk to the back office creates evening work. Typical connections are accounting (Fortnox or Visma), stock and warehouse systems, shipping and carriers, email marketing and customer service. We build them with the platform's apps where they are good, and with the system's API where they are not.

Accounting links are the most valuable. When each order, refund and payout appears as a voucher with the right moms code, month-end gets shorter. We test these with sample orders, including partial refunds and mixed tax rates, because those are where errors hide.

Accessibility and consent

The European Accessibility Act applies from 28 June 2025 to many consumer-facing online shops. The practical target is WCAG 2.2 AA: keyboard-friendly checkout, labeled fields, clear error messages and enough contrast. We test the full purchase path with a keyboard and a screen reader before launch. Our WCAG checklist shows the points.

Cookie consent follows the Swedish electronic communications law and GDPR. Marketing and analytics tags wait for consent. We use server-side order data, where allowed, for accurate sales reports, and describe it in the privacy policy.

Timeline and price

A standard Shopify store takes about four to eight weeks from a signed quote. A custom build takes longer, and we phase it so the first release can go live earlier. Avoid launching in the three weeks before Black Friday or during the Christmas rush; early autumn and late January are calmer.

Projects start at $1,500 with an hourly rate of $30. The ecommerce website cost guide explains what moves the price: catalog size, integrations, languages and custom design. We work from India and meet in the Swedish morning, with a weekly demo link and one named project lead. For Shopify-specific work in Sweden see Shopify development in Sweden.

Questions, answered

Which platform is cheapest to run in Sweden?
It depends on volume. Shopify has monthly plan and app fees, WooCommerce has hosting and maintenance costs, and custom builds have the highest build cost but the lowest per-feature limits.
Can we sell in Sweden and Norway from one store?
Yes, but Norway is outside the EU, so customs, VAT and currency work differently. Plan separate markets, prices and delivery options.
Do we need to show company details?
Swedish shops are expected to show who is selling: company name, address, organisationsnummer and contact details. Confirm the exact requirement with your adviser.
Can you migrate products and customers?
Yes, from most platforms using CSV or API export. We map fields, check images and set redirects so search rankings carry over.
Who owns the store and the code?
You do. Platform account, payment accounts and repositories are in your name from day one.
