In short

Liftup Technologies provides technical SEO for Swedish websites, working remotely from India. We audit crawling, indexing, hreflang for sv-SE and English, structured data, Core Web Vitals and the effect of consent banners, then fix the issues in your CMS or give your developers exact tickets. Progress is shown in Google Search Console. A fixed quote follows a short call.

Technical problems we see on Swedish sites

Swedish sites are usually well built, so the problems are specific rather than basic. Two language versions that point at each other incorrectly. A consent banner that covers the main content and hurts load metrics. A migration that changed all URLs and forgot the redirects. Faceted filters that create endless pages. An old .com that competes with the newer .se.

We begin with Search Console and a full crawl, then rank what we find by effect on traffic, not by the number of warnings in a tool. Our technical SEO service describes the standard audit, and the technical SEO checklist is the list we work through.

Language and region markup

Swedish is also spoken in Finland, and Google supports regional codes. If you serve both countries, sv-SE and sv-FI are separate targets, and each needs its own currency, shipping and legal text. For most Swedish firms one Swedish version and one English version is enough.

Setuphreflang valuesCommon mistake
Swedish only, .se domainsv-SE on every page, self-referencingMissing self-reference, or canonical pointing to a different language
Swedish and English on one domainsv-SE, en and x-defaultEnglish pages tagged en-US when the audience is international
Sweden plus Finlandsv-SE, sv-FI, fi-FICopying Swedish text to the Finnish-Swedish version without changing price or delivery
Nordic .com with country folderssv-SE, da-DK, nb-NO, fi-FI, enRedirecting by IP address, which hides pages from crawlers

Tags must be reciprocal: if page A points to B, B must point back. Our hreflang generator builds the markup and we validate it on the live crawl.

Crawl, index and speed

  • Crawl budget: log or Search Console crawl stats show whether Googlebot wastes time on filters, search results and calendar pages.
  • Indexing: which pages are valid, excluded or soft 404, and why. We fix causes, not just request reindexing.
  • URLs: Swedish letters in addresses are allowed but become encoded when copied. We prefer plain ASCII slugs for new pages and keep existing indexed URLs stable.
  • JavaScript rendering: text and links must exist in the rendered page, so we test with Search Console's inspection tool.
  • Core Web Vitals: field data, not lab scores, decides. Third-party tags, fonts and consent scripts are usual causes of slow pages. See the Core Web Vitals check.

A word on consent. Under Swedish electronic communications law and GDPR, analytics and ad tags wait for consent, so your analytics will undercount real visits. We use Search Console as the reference for traffic and verify the banner does not block content, the cookie notice is not a layout-shifting overlay and the Reject button works.

Structured data is the last piece. Organization, breadcrumb, product, FAQ and article markup should match what is visible on the page and use Swedish text on Swedish pages. We validate with Google's tools and watch the enhancement reports in Search Console for errors after each release. Our schema markup generator helps with first drafts.

Migrations and domains

A redesign, a platform change or a move from .com to .se is where rankings are most often lost. We build the redirect map from the crawl and from Search Console's top pages, test it on staging, and watch indexation for six weeks after launch. Schedule launches away from the November and December peak for shops, and away from midsummer and July when few people can react.

The .se domain is managed by Internetstiftelsen, and registration is open to anyone, so a Swedish presence on the domain does not require a Swedish office. Check that the registrar contact details and DNS access are held by your business. Our website migration checklist covers the sequence.

Working across the time gap, and price

We work from India. Stockholm is 3.5 or 4.5 hours behind Pune, so your 08:30 is our late morning. Findings come as a prioritized list with owner, effort and expected effect. We join your developers on a call to explain tickets, and then recheck after release.

Projects start at $1,500 and the hourly rate is $30. A focused audit with an implementation plan fits near the start. Implementation inside your CMS, migration support and monitoring add scope. The Sweden SEO page explains the wider program, and the SEO audit cost guide shows what drives the price.

Questions, answered

Do we need sv-SE or just sv in hreflang?
Either is valid. Use sv-SE when you target Sweden specifically, for example with SEK prices, and plain sv if the page serves all Swedish speakers. Be consistent across the site.
Does a cookie banner hurt SEO?
It can, if it shifts layout, covers content or loads heavy scripts. A light banner that reserves its space and blocks tags until consent is fine for search.
Should we use å, ä and ö in URLs?
Google can handle them, but plain letters are easier to share and less error-prone. Keep indexed URLs as they are unless you are migrating anyway.
How soon do fixes show up?
Crawl and indexing fixes can show in Search Console within a few weeks. Ranking changes depend on competition. We do not promise a position.
Can you work with our developers?
Yes. We write tickets with acceptance criteria and review the release on staging, so the fixes land as intended.
