In short

Liftup Technologies provides SEO and AI search optimization for Swiss businesses, working remotely from India. The work covers technical fixes, content and links for google.ch in German, French and Italian, plus the changes that get a brand quoted by AI answer tools. We plan around the revised Swiss data protection act, CHF pricing and Swiss spelling. After a short call you get a fixed quote within one working day.

One country, three search languages

Switzerland has four national languages, but a commercial site usually has to cover three of them: German, French and Italian. Each language region searches in its own words, and each competes with much larger neighbors. A Zurich shopper looking for a service sees German sites from Germany in the results. A Geneva shopper sees French ones. Swiss pages win by sending clear local signals.

RegionLanguage and hreflangWhat to get right
Zurich, Basel, Bern, LucerneGerman, de-CHSwiss spelling with ss instead of ß, Swiss vocabulary such as Velo, CHF prices
Geneva, Lausanne, FribourgFrench, fr-CHSwiss number words such as nonante, local terms, a separate page set from fr-FR
Lugano, BellinzonaItalian, it-CHTicino place names, a native reviewer, not a copy of an Italian site
Whole country, EnglishEnglish, en-CH or enUseful for B2B and international buyers, kept as a fourth set only when it has real traffic

Keyword research starts from Swiss query data, not from a translation of a German or French list. We confirm every term against real queries before it goes into a title or heading.

Domains, structure and hreflang

A .ch domain is the strongest local signal, and the registry publishes its rules at nic.ch. Check the current registration terms before you buy. If you already run a global .com, a language folder per market is a reasonable alternative.

  • Use one folder per language, for example /de/, /fr/ and /it/, each page pointing to its equivalents with de-CH, fr-CH and it-CH tags.
  • Add a self-referencing tag on every page, and an x-default for the page that routes visitors by language.
  • Show prices in CHF and say whether VAT, currently 8.1% as the standard rate, is included.
  • Do not redirect visitors by IP address alone. A French speaker in Zurich should be able to stay in French.

Our hreflang generator helps with the tags, and international SEO covers multi-market structure in more depth.

Rules that touch an SEO programme

Not legal advice. These are the points we ask your lawyer to confirm before we install tracking or run outreach.

  • The revised Federal Act on Data Protection (revFADP, in German nDSG) has applied since 1 September 2023. The regulator is the FDPIC at edoeb.admin.ch. Analytics, forms and remarketing collect personal data, so your privacy notice must describe them.
  • Switzerland is not in the EU. If your site also targets EU visitors, the GDPR can apply on top, and many Swiss sites run one consent setup that satisfies both.
  • Cookie information and the right to refuse are covered by Swiss telecommunications law. Ask your lawyer which banner behavior you need.
  • Unsolicited mass email advertising is restricted under Swiss unfair competition law, which matters for link-building outreach and newsletters. Get consent or rely on an existing relationship, and always include an opt-out.
  • If our team in India sees personal data, that is a disclosure abroad under the revFADP. We agree the safeguards in writing before access is given.

How we work across the time gap

Switzerland is 4.5 hours behind India in winter and 3.5 hours behind in summer. A 10:00 call in Zurich is 14:30 in India in winter and 13:30 in summer. Work is delivered in phases, with a written update after each one and a monthly report taken from your own Search Console data. One person leads your account.

What SEO costs

Projects start at $1,500 and the hourly rate is $30. You get a fixed quote within one working day of a short call, which you can book through the contact page. Scope moves the price: how many language versions, how many templates, and whether content writing is included. The SEO cost guide lists the factors.

Questions, answered

Do I need a .ch domain to rank in Switzerland?
No, but it is a clear local signal. A .com with language folders, hreflang for de-CH, fr-CH and it-CH, CHF prices and a Swiss contact address can also rank. Check the current rules at nic.ch before registering.
Should I publish in all three languages?
Publish in the languages your customers use, starting with the largest. A half-translated site hurts trust, so it is better to launch one language well than three in poor quality.
Does Google treat Swiss German differently from German?
Searchers use Swiss spelling and vocabulary, and Google shows results that match. Using ss instead of ß and local words helps your pages match real Swiss queries.
Do you also work on AI search visibility?
Yes. We work on AI search optimization: entity details, answer-ready passages and crawler access so AI tools can cite your pages.
How do you report results?
From your own Google Search Console and analytics: impressions, clicks, queries and indexed pages, with notes on what changed. You keep access to all accounts.
