In short

Liftup Technologies provides technical SEO for Swiss websites, working remotely from India. We audit crawling, indexing, speed and structured data, then fix or brief your developers on the issues, with special care for hreflang across de-CH, fr-CH and it-CH, redirects and cookie banners. Findings are tracked in your Search Console, and a short call leads to a fixed quote within one working day.

Why multilingual Swiss sites break

Most technical SEO problems on Swiss sites come from language handling. A site is launched in German, French is added a year later by a plugin, Italian arrives as a subfolder, and nobody checks how the pieces connect. The result: Google shows the wrong language to the wrong user, indexes duplicate pages or ignores half the site.

A technical audit finds these breaks and ranks them by impact. The fixes are usually small compared with the traffic they release.

What we check, and what Swiss sites usually get wrong

AreaTypical Swiss problemFix
Hreflangde-DE or plain de used where de-CH is meant, tags without return links, missing self-referenceA complete, reciprocal tag set per page, checked in the hreflang generator
Language redirectsAutomatic redirect by IP address traps visitors and blocks GooglebotOffer a choice, remember it, never block crawlers
CanonicalsEach language canonicalized to the German pageSelf-referencing canonicals per language version
Domains.ch, .com and old domains all live with duplicate contentOne primary host, 301 redirects, consistent www or non-www
Cookie bannersBanner covers content and pushes layout shiftReserve space, load scripts after consent, test mobile
SpeedLarge images, many third-party scriptsImage formats, script audit and caching
Structured dataMissing address, opening hours or price currencySchema with CHF, local address and correct language

Our technical SEO checklist lists the full set, and the how to do technical SEO guide explains the order we work in.

Domain choices for Switzerland

A .ch domain gives a strong country signal, and the registry publishes its rules at nic.ch. A .com with language folders also works if hreflang and content are right. The choice rarely matters as much as consistency. We have seen the same business live on three hosts at once, splitting links and confusing crawlers.

  • Choose one primary host and redirect all others to it with one-step 301s.
  • Keep language folders short and stable, for example /de/, /fr/ and /it/.
  • If a language gets its own domain, treat each as a separate site in Search Console.
  • Avoid changing URLs without a mapped redirect list. A migration without one is the most common cause of lost rankings.

Test with real tools, not assumptions. Search Console's international reports, a crawl of each language folder and a check of the rendered HTML show what Google sees. Pages that depend on JavaScript to show text should be tested in rendered view, since content that loads late can be missed.

Speed, consent and privacy

Core Web Vitals measure loading, responsiveness and visual stability. Cookie banners often hurt the third one. We test the real user experience with your consent tool switched on, not only the clean page. Check your pages with the Core Web Vitals check and read the Core Web Vitals checklist.

Tracking tools send visitor data to third parties, so the revised Federal Act on Data Protection (in force since 1 September 2023, supervised by the FDPIC) matters here. Not legal advice: your lawyer should confirm the banner text and the tools you may run before consent. If you target EU visitors, the GDPR can apply too. Our job is to make sure the technical setup does what the notice says.

How the work runs

We work remotely from India. Switzerland is 3.5 to 4.5 hours behind, so we send the audit findings by email and walk through them in a call at 10:00 or 11:00 Swiss time. Fixes are delivered as tickets with screenshots and exact URLs, or applied directly if you give us access to the CMS. After fixes, we recrawl and compare the Search Console reports. You get a written update after each phase.

We also keep a change log of every fix with date and page group, so a later dip or rise in traffic can be linked to a cause. This record helps your developers and any agency that follows.

Pricing

Projects start at $1,500 and the rate is $30 an hour. A fixed quote follows a short call and depends on site size, platform and the number of language versions. A one-off SEO audit is a good first step; our general technical SEO service page lists everything it covers. For stores, add ecommerce SEO.

Questions, answered

Should we use de-CH or de for hreflang?
Use de-CH for pages written for Swiss readers and de-DE for German-market pages. Using the region tag tells Google which version belongs to which audience.
How long do technical fixes take to show results?
Search Console often shows changes in crawling and indexing within a few weeks. Ranking effects take longer and depend on competition.
Can you work with our developers?
Yes. We write tickets they can act on and review the result. If you have no developers, we can apply fixes directly.
Do you need access to our servers?
Not for the audit, which uses crawlers and your Search Console. For fixes we need CMS or repository access that you can remove at any time.
Is a cookie banner bad for SEO?
Not by itself. Poorly built banners that shift the layout or block content are the problem. We test and adjust.
