In short

Liftup Technologies builds online shops for businesses selling in Germany, working remotely from India. We work on Shopify, WooCommerce and custom builds, and set up German legal pages, checkout wording, VAT, the usual payment methods such as PayPal, Klarna, SEPA direct debit and invoice payment, and shipping and returns flows. You get a fixed quote within one working day of a short call.

What German shoppers expect from a shop

German online buyers compare prices carefully, read the delivery information before they add to the cart, and abandon checkouts that lack their preferred payment method. Trust shows in details: a visible Impressum, clear shipping costs, a readable return policy and recognized payment logos. Marketplaces such as Amazon.de, Otto and Kaufland set high expectations for fast delivery, so your own shop has to be clear about timing and costs to compete.

The rules matter as much as the habits. Consumer sales online come with information duties, a 14-day right of withdrawal in most cases, and an order button that clearly states the payment obligation. Your lawyer should confirm the texts, and we build the shop so those texts appear in the right places.

Delivery performance shapes reviews and repeat orders. Decide early which carriers you use, such as DHL, DPD or Hermes, which countries you ship to and how you handle returns labels, and show the cut-off time for same-day dispatch. These small details lower support requests more than any design change.

Choosing the platform

PlatformGood fitGerman setup notes
ShopifySmall and mid-size catalogs, fast launch, low maintenanceMarkets for Germany, legal page apps or templates, payment methods through Shopify Payments or providers
WooCommerceTeams that know WordPress, custom needs, full data controlPlugins for legal texts, invoices and payments; host in the EU if you prefer
Custom buildUnusual pricing, subscriptions, B2B portals, deep ERP linksHigher cost, full control over checkout and data

Our Shopify vs WooCommerce comparison goes through the trade-offs, and the ecommerce website cost guide lists price drivers. For platform-specific German pages, see Shopify development and WordPress and WooCommerce development.

Checkout, payments and legal details

  • The order button reads „zahlungspflichtig bestellen“ or an equally clear wording.
  • Prices are shown including VAT, at 19% or 7% by product, with shipping costs visible before checkout.
  • PayPal, Klarna, card payments and SEPA direct debit are offered, plus purchase on invoice (Kauf auf Rechnung) where your provider carries the risk.
  • The withdrawal information, terms, privacy notice and Impressum are reachable from the checkout and included in the order confirmation.
  • For goods sold by weight, volume or length, the base price (Grundpreis) is shown where the rules require it.
  • A returns process is clear to the customer and to your warehouse.

Rules on packaging, electrical equipment and other categories can apply depending on what you sell. We flag these in scoping, but registrations and legal texts are for you and your adviser to confirm.

Catalog, search and marketplaces

Good product data does most of the work in ecommerce: clear German titles, consistent attributes, sizes in the units people expect, and photos that show the product at real scale. A clean catalog feeds your shop search, Google Shopping, price comparison sites and marketplaces from one source. We set up structured data and feeds, and plan categories around the terms people use. When search visibility is the goal, our German ecommerce SEO page goes further.

Search inside the shop matters too. German compound words and spelling variants mean a plain search box often returns nothing, so we configure synonyms and test the most common queries from your own data.

Speed, accessibility and consent

Slow product pages lose mobile buyers, so we test speed on mid-range phones and keep scripts under control. The Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz (BFSG) has applied since 28 June 2025 to online shops selling to consumers, with exceptions for very small businesses, so we build to WCAG 2.2 AA and test keyboard use, contrast and form labels; your adviser confirms whether the exception applies to you. Tracking and marketing pixels load only after consent, in line with the TDDDG.

Projects start at $1,500 and the rate is $30 an hour. India is 4.5 hours ahead of Germany in winter and 3.5 hours ahead in summer, so reviews happen in your morning. The ecommerce development service page describes the general approach.

Questions, answered

Can you migrate our existing shop?
Yes. We move products, customers where lawful and order history where needed, and set up redirects so search traffic is kept.
Which payment methods should we offer first?
PayPal, card payments and SEPA direct debit cover many buyers. Klarna and invoice payment depend on your margins and risk, so we compare provider terms with you.
Do you connect shops to ERP or inventory systems?
Often yes, through APIs or file exchange. We confirm what your system supports during scoping.
Will you write the legal texts?
No. Texts should come from your lawyer or a legal text service. We place them correctly in the shop.
Can the shop sell to Austria and Switzerland?
Yes. Shipping zones, taxes, customs and currencies differ, so we configure them separately and check that each region's checkout works.
