In short

Liftup Technologies provides ecommerce SEO for German online shops, working remotely from India. The work covers German keyword research, category and product page optimization, structured data, product feeds for Google and price comparison sites, and faceted-navigation control. Prices, shipping and legal details are checked against German display rules. You get a fixed quote within one working day of a short call.

Who competes with a German shop in search

A small German shop rarely competes only with other small shops. Search results for product terms are shared with Amazon.de, Otto, Kaufland, Zalando in fashion, manufacturer sites, and price comparison services such as Idealo. Ranking against them means winning on specifics: a clearer category page, better filters, honest delivery times and structured data that feeds shopping results.

We start with a review of which result types dominate your core terms. If the page-one results are mostly marketplaces and comparison pages, the plan puts more weight on long-tail categories, brand terms and feed quality than on head terms.

Reviews need care. Star ratings in search results require genuine reviews, and German competition law treats fake or selectively shown reviews as misleading. If you use a third-party review service, we mark up only what the visitor can see on the page.

Keyword research in German

German shoppers combine words into one: Damenlaufschuhe, Gartenmöbelset, Bürostuhl ergonomisch. Spelling variants split volume between Onlineshop and Online-Shop, and singular and plural forms often rank differently. Product category names that work in English translate badly if copied word for word. We build the keyword map from Search Console data and German autocomplete, then assign one primary term to each category page.

Page typeGerman search patternWhat goes on the page
CategoryCompound noun, sometimes with a modifier such as günstig or kaufenShort intro, filters, buying advice below the products
ProductBrand, model, size, EAN or MPNSpecs, delivery time, price with VAT, reviews you can show
GuideQuestion or comparison, such as welche GrößeHelpful content that links to the matching category
Brand pageBrand name plus product typeRange overview and official product data

Price, shipping and legal details that also help SEO

German price display rules (Preisangabenverordnung) expect the total price including VAT for consumers, plus shipping costs and, for goods sold by weight or volume, a base price (Grundpreis). The standard VAT rate is 19% and 7% applies to a reduced set of goods. Product schema and feeds should carry the same price a shopper sees, or Google Merchant Center will flag mismatches.

  • Show delivery time and shipping cost near the price, not only in the footer.
  • Keep the Widerrufsbelehrung, AGB and Impressum reachable from every product page.
  • Mention the payment methods your shoppers expect: PayPal, Klarna, SEPA direct debit and purchase on invoice (Kauf auf Rechnung).
  • Ask your lawyer about packaging registration (the Verpackungsgesetz) and any category-specific labeling.

Feeds, schema and faceted navigation

Structured data for products, offers and reviews gives search engines clean facts to show. We also maintain feeds for Google Merchant Center and price comparison sites where you list. Filters are the other big risk: a shop with colors, sizes and brands can produce thousands of near-duplicate URLs. We decide which filter pages deserve to be indexed and block or canonicalize the rest. For the platform-specific detail see Shopify SEO, and for crawl issues technical SEO.

Internal search matters as well. German visitors type compound words and typos into the search box, so we review the shop's search results page and add synonyms, such as Sneaker and Turnschuhe, where the platform allows.

Planning the German retail year

Black Friday and Cyber Week in November are large sales moments in Germany, followed by the Christmas peak. Many shoppers also compare prices before buying, so listing pages that are indexed before the sale perform better than pages created on the day. Keep sale URLs permanent and update them each year. Seasonal terms such as Gartenmöbel in spring or Heizkörper in autumn need pages that are published and linked well ahead.

A good plan also covers the quieter months. Returns policies, size guides, assembly instructions and care guides answer the questions shoppers ask before buying, and they win long-tail rankings that marketplaces rarely target. See the SEO audit checklist for the audit items we start from.

How we work and what it costs

Work is split into an audit, technical fixes, category and product optimization, then content and links, with a written update after each phase and reporting from your Search Console. Pune is 4.5 hours ahead of Germany in winter and 3.5 hours in summer, so calls run in your morning. Projects start at $1,500 at $30 an hour. The ecommerce SEO cost guide covers what moves the price, and the ecommerce SEO service page describes the full scope.

Questions, answered

Do we have to compete with Amazon.de?
Not on everything. We look for categories, brands and long-tail terms where a specialist shop can win, and treat marketplaces as a channel as well as a competitor.
Which platforms do you work with?
Shopify, WooCommerce and custom builds. Platform limits on URLs, filters and templates shape the plan.
Does the cookie banner hurt rankings?
It does not rank pages down by itself, but a heavy banner can slow loading and hide content. We test its effect on Core Web Vitals.
Can you handle Austria and Switzerland?
Yes, with de-AT and de-CH versions, local currency and shipping information. Whether they are worth building depends on your sales there.
How soon will we see results?
Technical fixes can show in Search Console within weeks. Category rankings usually take months and depend on competition.
