In short

Liftup Technologies builds online shops for Austrian merchants, working remotely from India. We help choose between Shopify, WooCommerce and custom builds, then set up catalog, euro pricing with 20% USt, payment methods, shipping, legal pages and integrations. A fixed quote follows a short call, and the shop, domain and code stay in your name.

Choosing the platform

The right platform depends on the catalog, the team and the systems behind the shop. We compare options openly, because a wrong choice costs more than the build.

PlatformBest forWatch out for
ShopifyStandard catalogs, fast launch, managed hostingCustom pricing logic and some local payment methods need checking
WooCommerceUnusual products, B2B pricing, full controlMore upkeep: updates, hosting and security are your job
Custom buildERP-driven catalogs, configurators, marketplacesHighest cost and longest build
Headless setupLarge brands wanting speed and custom front endsNeeds a capable team to maintain

Our Shopify or WooCommerce comparison adds detail, and the ecommerce website cost guide shows the price drivers.

Marketplaces such as Willhaben or Amazon.de can sit beside your own shop. They bring reach, but they also take fees and own the customer relationship. Most merchants we meet use them for visibility and build their own shop for margin, repeat orders and brand.

Payments, tax and delivery in Austria

  • Prices are shown including 20% USt to consumers, with shipping costs visible before the order.
  • Payment methods usually include cards, PayPal, Klarna and eps-Überweisung, plus invoice or SEPA direct debit where your provider offers it. Availability depends on your provider and account, so we confirm before design.
  • Delivery is typically Austria Post or a parcel carrier, with pickup points as an option. Rural areas and mountain regions may need longer delivery times, which the shop should state honestly.
  • If you ship to Germany, set up a separate market with its own shipping rates and check the VAT rules with your Steuerberater.
  • Returns follow the EU 14-day withdrawal right for most consumer sales, with the information text and model form available.

Pricing display for business customers deserves a note. A shop that serves both consumers and companies can show gross prices to consumers and net prices to logged-in business accounts with a valid UID. Reverse charge and intra-EU rules apply to cross-border B2B sales, so your Steuerberater should confirm the settings.

Legal pages and accessibility

An Austrian shop needs a reachable Impressum, terms, a privacy policy, withdrawal information and clear order buttons. The E-Commerce-Gesetz and consumer law set the framework, and your lawyer should write the text. We place it, link it from the footer and checkout, and test that cookie consent behaves as your policy says.

Accessibility has become practical, not just nice to have. The BaFG applies the European Accessibility Act from 28 June 2025, and online shops are a named target. We build to WCAG 2.2 AA where possible and check keyboard use, contrast, form labels and error messages. Ask your lawyer whether micro-enterprise exceptions apply to you.

A short list of what the footer and checkout should carry: Impressum, AGB, Datenschutz, Widerruf, shipping and payment information, and a contact route that answers. Missing items here are the most common reason legal letters reach shops.

Integrations that save work

A shop that needs manual re-entry of orders will not scale. Common links in Austria include accounting exports for BMD, RZL or DATEV, stock sync with a warehouse tool or ERP, shipping label printing, and marketplace feeds for Google Merchant Center. We start with the one integration that saves the most hours, then add others.

Product data deserves early attention. If titles, sizes and images live in several spreadsheets, we clean them once during migration. A tidy catalog helps search, ads and customer support later. For search, see ecommerce SEO in Austria.

Customer service tools belong in the plan as well. Order status emails, a returns form and a short FAQ reduce support mail, and a chat or email address that answers within a day builds trust faster than any badge.

Build process and cost

  1. Plan the catalog and checkoutProduct structure, shipping zones, payment methods and legal pages agreed in writing.
  2. Build and migrateTheme or custom front end, product import and redirects from the old shop.
  3. Test ordersTest purchases with each payment method, tax view and email.
  4. Launch and monitorGo live, watch orders and errors, then fix issues in the first weeks.

We are in Pune with no Austrian office, and a 10:00 call in Vienna is 13:30 or 14:30 for us. Projects start at $1,500 and extra work is $30 an hour. The ecommerce solutions page has the full scope.

After launch we look at the first month of data together: cart abandonment, payment failures, slow pages and search terms used on the site. Small fixes found there often add more revenue than new features.

Questions, answered

Which platform is cheapest to run?
Shopify has a predictable subscription. WooCommerce has lower license cost but needs hosting and upkeep. We compare total cost for your case.
Can the shop show gross prices?
Yes. Consumer prices are shown with USt included, and B2B customers can be shown net prices if you serve both groups.
Do you migrate an existing shop?
Yes. We move products, customers where permitted and orders, and set redirects so search traffic is kept.
Can you connect the shop to our ERP?
Often yes, through an API or a standard connector. We check the options in the discovery call.
Who owns the shop?
You do. The platform account, domain and code are in your name from the start.
