Shopify is not German-ready out of the box

Shopify supports German, euro prices and local tax settings, but a default store still misses details that German shoppers and competitors notice. Legal pages are not linked in the checkout, the order button may not meet German wording rules, delivery times are not shown near the price, and translated text can look machine-made. The goal of the build is to close these gaps before launch, not after the first warning letter.

There is also a trust layer. German shoppers often look for a visible company address, a working phone or email contact, a clear returns page and recognizable payment logos before they enter card details. We place these in the header, the product page and the cart, using only the marks and memberships you are entitled to show.

German setup checklist

Legal wording and your exact obligations are for your lawyer. Many merchants use a legal-text service, and we connect its pages and links to the theme and checkout.

Markets, languages and Austria or Switzerland

Shopify can serve several countries from one store. For Germany we set the primary market to German and euros. If you also sell in Austria, the language is the same but the VAT rate and shipping rules differ, and Switzerland uses Swiss francs and has its own customs process. We set up markets and hreflang so each version shows the right language, currency and policies.

Theme work, apps and speed

We customize themes or build a lean custom theme in Liquid, and we choose apps carefully. Every app that loads scripts on the storefront affects speed and consent, because tracking and review widgets must wait for a visitor's choice under TDDDG. We remove what is not needed, load fonts from your own assets and check Core Web Vitals before launch.

Shipping is its own topic. DHL, DPD, Hermes and GLS are familiar carriers in Germany, and shoppers like parcel tracking and clear delivery windows. We connect the carriers or shipping app you already use, and set up rates by country and weight band so Austria and Switzerland are handled separately.
