In short

Liftup Technologies builds and improves Shopify stores for merchants in the Netherlands, working remotely from India. Work includes theme customization, Dutch and English translations, btw and shipping setup, payment connections such as iDEAL, and migration from other platforms. After a short call you receive a fixed quote within one working day, and projects start at $1,500.

What a Dutch Shopify store has to do

The Dutch market rewards shops that feel local. Shoppers expect Dutch text, prices with btw included, iDEAL at checkout, and delivery by a carrier they know, with a date. If one of those is missing, they often abandon. The platform choice matters less than these details being right.

AreaDutch requirementShopify setup
PaymentsiDEAL first, then cards and walletsShopify Payments where it is available to you, or a provider such as Mollie, added by app
TaxPrices include btw, 21% standard and 9% reducedTax settings with included-tax pricing and correct product tax classes

ShippingPostNL, DHL, DPD, pickup pointsRates by weight and region, carrier apps for labels and tracking
Legal pagesTerms, return policy, privacy and company detailsPolicy pages and footer fields filled with your own text

Payment options depend on your Shopify plan and account country, so we check the current availability in your admin before promising a setup.

The result should be a store your own team can run. We document how to add products, change shipping rates and update the Dutch copy, so routine changes do not wait for us.

What we build

  • A theme tuned for mobile, with product pages that show delivery time, returns and stock honestly.
  • Dutch navigation, filters and search words, such as the terms shoppers use for each category.
  • Product, collection and customer-account templates, plus custom sections in Liquid when the theme falls short.
  • Migration from WooCommerce, Magento or another platform, with product data, customers and redirects.
  • Integrations with accounting, inventory and the Bol.com marketplace where your tools support it.

For wider platform choices, our ecommerce development page for the Netherlands compares the options, and the Shopify vs WooCommerce guide goes deeper.

Speed work is part of every build. We keep apps to those that pay for themselves, compress and size images, and test the store on a mid-range phone, since a slow app stack is the most common reason a Shopify store scores badly in speed tests.

Rules that touch a Dutch store

EU consumers can withdraw from most distance purchases within 14 days, and the shop must give clear information before the order. A returns page, a model withdrawal form and a visible policy link are the usual elements. Dutch shops also tend to show a trust mark. Thuiswinkel Waarborg is a membership, so we leave room for the badge once you qualify.

Checkout collects personal data, and marketing pixels need consent. The Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens enforces the AVG, and cookie rules sit in the Telecommunicatiewet. We configure the consent banner so tracking apps load only after a yes. Accessibility under the European Accessibility Act has applied since 28 June 2025 to many online stores, so we build to WCAG 2.2 AA. Confirm the exact obligations with your lawyer.

If you sell to Belgium, the same store can serve Flanders in Dutch, with separate shipping rates and tax checks. Selling to other EU countries brings the EU One Stop Shop scheme for btw, which your accountant should review.

How a build runs from India

  1. Short callCatalog size, current platform, payment provider and carriers.
  2. Fixed quoteScope and price within one working day.
  3. Build and weekly demoA live preview store you can click through, plus a short written note each week.
  4. Test ordersiDEAL test payments, btw checks, shipping rates and return flow before launch.

Dutch hours overlap with the Indian afternoon: 10:00 in Amsterdam is 13:30 in Pune in summer and 14:30 in winter. We book decision calls in that window.

Before launch we place test orders with an iDEAL test payment, a card payment and a discount code. We also check the confirmation emails in Dutch, the invoice or receipt details, and the return label flow, because those small steps decide whether a first customer comes back.

Pricing

Projects start at $1,500, and our rate is $30 an hour. A small catalog on a customized theme is at the low end. Large catalogs, a migration, custom features and many integrations raise the price. Read the Shopify store cost guide and the full Shopify development service. Shopify's own plan fees are separate and billed by Shopify.

Questions, answered

Can my Shopify store accept iDEAL?
Yes, through Shopify Payments where it is available for your account or through a payment provider app. We check what your admin offers and set it up. The wider move of iDEAL towards Wero is handled by your provider.
Can the store be in Dutch and English?
Yes. Shopify supports several languages, and we set up the switch and hreflang tags. Copy is approved by you or a native editor.
Can you migrate my WooCommerce store?
Yes. Products, customers, orders and URLs can move, with redirects so rankings are protected as far as possible.
Do I keep ownership of the store?
You do. The store is created under your account, and we work through staff access.
Do I need a Dutch company to open the store?
Shopify has its own account rules, and your tax setup is a matter for your accountant. We do not need a local entity to build for you.
