Why many Swiss firms still choose WordPress

WordPress suits companies that want to edit their own pages, add languages and connect common tools without a developer for every change. It also has a large supply of Swiss and German-speaking freelancers, so you are not tied to us. The risk is not the software itself but how it is set up: too many plugins, no update routine, weak passwords, slow hosting.

Multilingual WordPress done properly

A Swiss company site often needs German, French and sometimes Italian or English. There are three common ways to build it, and each suits a different team.

Whatever the method, each page needs hreflang tags for de-CH, fr-CH and it-CH pointing to its translations. Our hreflang generator lets you check them. Copy should be reviewed by a native speaker; Swiss German uses ss rather than ß.

Whichever method you choose, agree who owns translation. A plugin can show a page in three languages, but only people can keep the three versions accurate when a price, name or rule changes.

Privacy, forms and tracking

WordPress sites collect personal data through contact forms, newsletter plugins, comments, embedded maps and analytics. The revised Federal Act on Data Protection, in force since 1 September 2023 and supervised by the FDPIC, expects your privacy notice to name them. Embedded videos and fonts loaded from third-party servers send visitor data to those servers, so we host fonts locally and use click-to-load embeds where possible. Confirm the final text and cookie behavior with your lawyer. The EU GDPR may apply too if you target EU visitors.

Security and maintenance

An unmaintained WordPress site is the most common target for automated attacks. We apply a short baseline: current core, theme and plugins, limited admin accounts, two-factor login, daily backups stored away from the server, and a firewall plugin or host-level rules. For hosting we work with what you pick, whether a Swiss provider such as Infomaniak or Hostpoint or an international host, and advise on speed and backup features.

• Staging copy for updates, so the live site is never the test bed.
• A monthly update window and a short written report.
• WooCommerce stores: tax display with VAT at the standard rate of 8.1%, CHF, and local payment plugins checked for current support.
• Rescue work: a hacked or slow site cleaned, rebuilt or migrated.

Speed and Swiss hosting

Swiss visitors are used to fast, reliable sites. We measure with Core Web Vitals and fix the usual causes of slow WordPress pages: heavy page builders, unoptimized images, too many plugins and slow servers. Hosting close to your visitors, whether in Switzerland or nearby, shortens response time. A caching layer and a CDN do the rest.

• Convert images to modern formats and size them for the layout.
• Remove plugins that duplicate each other, and replace small plugins with a few lines of theme code.
• Load scripts after the page is usable, and delay tracking until consent is given.
• Keep the database clean, with revisions limited.
