WordPress development

WordPress development agency for sites your team can edit

We build WordPress sites with the fewest plugins that do the job, a theme that loads fast, and an editing setup your staff can use without calling a developer.

In short

Liftup builds custom WordPress and WooCommerce sites with a lean plugin list, a fast theme and a clear editing setup for your team. We choose between a block theme, a custom theme or a page builder based on who will edit the site, build on staging, test on real devices and hand over written documentation.

What WordPress development includes

WordPress runs a large share of the web, which means plenty of hosts, developers and plugins. It also means plenty of slow, over-pluginned sites. Our work is to build a site that is the opposite: a theme written for your design, a short list of plugins you can name, and content types that match your business.

  • Custom or block themes built from an approved design
  • Custom post types and fields, for example services, case studies, products or team members
  • WooCommerce stores, including shipping, tax and payment setup
  • Forms, bookings and integrations with your CRM or email tool
  • Performance work: image handling, caching and script control
  • Security basics: roles, login protection and update routine

When WordPress is the right choice

It fits teams who publish often, want to edit pages themselves, and need a large choice of hosting and developers. It is a sound base for content sites, service firms, course sites and stores up to a moderate size.

It is not always right. If your site is mostly a handful of static pages and your team never edits, a simpler platform costs less to keep up. If you need a heavily interactive product, a custom web app is a better fit. Our comparison of Webflow vs WordPress sets out the trade-offs.

How we build a WordPress site

  1. Scope and content modelWe list the kinds of content you will manage and who edits each. This decides the theme approach and the plugin list.
  2. Design approvalThe home page and key templates are designed and approved before any theme code is written.
  3. Staging buildThe theme and content types are built on a private staging site. You see progress through a link, not a screenshot.
  4. Plugin reviewEach plugin must pass the test in the table below. If we can do the job in theme code, we do.
  5. TestingWe test on real phones and browsers, run speed checks on the main templates, and test every form and, for stores, a full order.
  6. Launch and handoverWe move the site live, set up backups and analytics, and give your team a written guide to editing each page type.

How we choose between theme approaches

ApproachWins whenWatch out for
Block theme with custom blocksYour team edits layouts and wants clean codeNeeds a developer for new block types
Custom theme with fixed templatesDesign must stay exactly as built and editors change text onlyLess freedom for editors to rearrange pages
Page builder such as ElementorMarketing needs to build pages without a developerHeavier pages and a builder dependency to keep updated

We say which we recommend and why, based on who will edit the site in a year. We do not default to a page builder because it is quick for us.

The plugin test

Every plugin is a dependency you must update and secure. We ask four questions of each one before it goes on the list.

QuestionIf the answer is no
Does it solve a job that theme code cannot do cleanly?Write it in the theme
Is it updated regularly and used widely?Choose another or build it
Does it add front-end scripts on every page?Load it only on pages that need it
Can you name what breaks if we remove it?Remove it

A short plugin list is easier to update, faster to load and cheaper to maintain. Our website maintenance service covers updates after launch.

Timeline, reporting and related work

A brochure site of five to ten pages typically takes five to eight weeks. A WooCommerce store with custom features takes eight to fourteen weeks. Landing pages can be much faster: the Interakt pages, built on WordPress and hosted on Google Cloud, were delivered in two weeks.

You get a weekly progress note during the build. After launch we track page speed and search performance from your own Google Search Console and report the results at 30 and 90 days. The A'YUCO matcha store is a WordPress build with a teaching goal: the store explains why matcha, how to prepare it and which kit to start with, so the content structure was as important as the cart.

Questions, answered

How much does a WordPress site cost?
You get a fixed quote after a short call. Pricing depends on page count, custom features and whether you need WooCommerce. See WordPress website cost for the factors.
Will I be able to edit the site myself?
Yes. Part of the build is setting up the editing screens around your actual content and writing a guide for each page type.
Can you take over a WordPress site someone else built?
Yes. We start with an inventory of plugins, theme code and hosting, then tell you what is safe to keep and what should be rebuilt.
Is WordPress secure?
WordPress core is actively patched. Most compromises come from outdated plugins, weak logins or poor hosting. Short plugin lists, limited roles and a regular update routine reduce that risk.
Can you improve the search performance of my WordPress site?
Yes, through WordPress SEO: technical fixes first, then content and links, reported from your own Search Console.
Which host should I use?
We advise on managed WordPress hosting that suits your traffic and region. We will work with your host if you already have one, provided it supports staging and backups.
