In short

Liftup Technologies develops WordPress and WooCommerce sites for Austrian companies, working remotely from India. The work covers custom themes or block-based builds, German-language editing, consent and legal pages, EU hosting advice, security hardening and speed. A fixed quote follows a short call, and the site, hosting and domain stay in your name.

When WordPress is the right choice in Austria

WordPress fits companies that publish often and want several people to edit: a Steuerberater with news and downloads, a clinic with team pages, a hotel with seasonal offers, an association with events. It is also the base for WooCommerce, which works for stores with unusual products, B2B prices or custom order flows.

It is not always the best fit. A small online shop with standard products is often simpler on Shopify, and a product with user accounts may need a coded app. We say so when we scope. See WordPress or Webflow for another view of the choice.

Migration is a frequent starting point. Many Austrian sites were built years ago on an old theme or page builder and now load slowly or break on updates. We plan the move page by page, keep URLs where possible and set redirects for the rest, so search traffic is kept.

Plugins that matter for Austrian sites

NeedHow it is usually solvedAustrian point
Cookie consentA consent plugin such as Complianz or Borlabs CookieTags must stay blocked until consent; test with the banner closed
Legal pagesPages for Impressum, Datenschutz and AGB, with text from your lawyerLinked in the footer on every page
Shop tax and legal fieldsWooCommerce tax settings, plus an extension for the German-language legal checkout if neededGross prices and a withdrawal notice for consumers
FormsA forms plugin with spam protection and a consent checkboxStore as little personal data as possible
SEOA single SEO plugin with hreflang supportde-AT targeting if the site serves more than one market
Backups and securityDaily backups stored off the server, a firewall and login limitsBackups also hold personal data, so they follow your privacy policy

We keep the plugin list short. Every plugin is code someone must update, so we choose a few well-maintained ones from wordpress.org and the WooCommerce marketplace, and remove what is not needed.

Hosting and data location

WordPress runs on your hosting, so you choose where the data sits. Many Austrian companies pick a provider with servers in Austria, Germany or elsewhere in the EU, and we have no preference for any specific host. What matters is a current PHP version, daily backups, a staging copy and a contract that describes data processing under GDPR.

We set up hosting in your name, then work in a staging copy and publish after your approval. After handover, you can change provider or developer without our permission.

Email deserves a mention. Contact forms that send through the web server often land in spam. We connect forms to a proper mail account through SMTP and add SPF, DKIM and DMARC records, so enquiries reach you.

Security, updates and the editor experience

Most WordPress incidents come from outdated plugins and weak logins. A basic routine prevents most of them: automatic updates for minor releases, a monthly review of major updates, two-factor login for admins, limited user roles and a tested restore from backup. Our WordPress security checklist lists the full set.

The editor experience is just as important. We build with blocks and reusable patterns so staff can add a news item or a team member without breaking the layout. Handover includes a short recorded walkthrough, and the admin labels can be in German.

Legal and accessibility checks before launch

  • Impressum reachable in one click from every page, with the details your lawyer lists.
  • Privacy policy that names the plugins, analytics and embedded services in use.
  • Embeds such as maps and videos loaded only after consent.
  • For shops: gross prices, shipping costs and the 14-day withdrawal information shown before purchase.
  • Accessibility to WCAG 2.2 AA; the BaFG applies the European Accessibility Act from 28 June 2025 to many online shops and some services.

Legal wording is your lawyer's job. We place it and make sure the site behaves as the text says.

Working together and cost

A lead developer is your single contact. Calls are in Vienna mornings, which are 13:30 or 14:30 for us in Pune depending on the season, and you see a staging link every week. We have no office in Austria.

Projects start at $1,500, extra work is $30 an hour, and the quote is fixed after a short call. The WordPress website cost guide shows what moves the price, and the general WordPress service page lists the full scope.

Questions, answered

Can you make our existing WordPress site faster?
Usually yes. We measure first, then remove heavy plugins, compress images, add caching and fix hosting limits. We report the before and after.
Is WooCommerce suitable for an Austrian shop?
Yes, when set up with gross prices, correct tax rules and legal checkout text. It gives more freedom than Shopify but needs more care with updates.
Can we edit the site in German?
Yes. The admin area can run in German, and we build content blocks that your staff can use without coding.
What happens if a plugin breaks the site?
We test updates in staging before they reach the live site, and we keep a restore point. Maintenance is available at $30 an hour or in a monthly plan.
Do we own the theme code?
Yes. Custom theme code and content belong to you, and third-party plugins keep their own licenses.
