Google Business Profile
Do Google reviews post right away?
Often yes, sometimes no. A review can appear within minutes, and it can also sit for a day or more while automated checks run. This guide covers both sides: the customer who wrote it and the owner who is waiting for it.
In short
Most Google reviews appear within minutes to a few hours, but not always. Google runs automated checks for spam and policy breaches, and a flagged review can be delayed for days or held back entirely. If a review is missing after about three days, check it from the reviewer's account, then report it through the Business Profile.
What usually happens after someone hits Post
A review passes through an automated filter before it goes public. Most pass at once. A smaller share are held while Google looks at signals such as the reviewer's account history, the wording, links, the location of the device and how many reviews arrived for the business in a short time.
| Situation | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Established account, plain text review | Appears within minutes to a few hours |
| New account with no other activity | Can be held longer for checks |
| Review with links, phone numbers or promotional wording | Often held or removed |
| Many reviews in one day after a campaign | Some can be delayed as a pattern check |
| Review with strong language or personal details | Can be held and may be removed under content policy |
| Edited review | Edit can take time to show, the old text may display first |
Google does not publish a fixed delay and the process changes. Treat these as common patterns, and use the steps below to check your own case.
If you wrote a review and cannot see it
- Check your own contributionsIn Google Maps, open the menu, go to Your contributions, then Reviews. If the review is listed there, it is posted from your side.
- View it signed outOpen the business page in a private window, not signed in, and sort by newest. You may need to refresh. Public pages can lag behind your account view.
- Wait two to three daysA held review is often released once the checks finish.
- Check the contentRemove links, contact details and anything that reads as an advertisement or an attack, then edit and save.
- Do not post it twiceDuplicates look like spam and can cause both to be removed.
If you own the business and a review is missing
Customers sometimes say 'I left you a review' and nothing shows. Ask them for a screenshot of their review as they see it on their phone. It tells you whether it is posted, pending or never saved.
- Look in the Business Profile Reviews section, not only in public search, because it can load differently.
- Check the notification email for new reviews. A review that does not trigger one may not be live.
- Make sure the customer reviewed the right location, not a similar profile or a duplicate listing.
- If a review is live but looks fake or breaks policy, flag it from the profile. Removal is Google's decision and can take days.
- If a customer's review is missing after a week, ask them to repost without links or a coupon mention.
Do not pay for reviews, offer gifts for positive ones or screen customers so only happy ones can reach you. These practices break Google's policy and can lead to reviews being removed or the profile being restricted.
A worked example: a clinic asking for reviews
A small clinic wants more reviews. It sends a short message after each visit with a link to the review form and no reward. The first week produces nine reviews. Seven appear within an hour. Two do not show up on the public page. The staff ask both patients for a screenshot. One shows the review saved but with a phone number in the text. The patient edits it and it posts the next day. The other review was left on an old duplicate listing. The clinic reports the duplicate and asks the patient to post on the right profile.
This is an invented example to show the checking order: contributions page, content, correct profile, then report. In most cases of a missing review one of those explains it.
Why reviews matter for local search
Review count, recency and rating are visible in the results and influence whether someone calls you. Google has said that the quantity and quality of reviews are part of what affects local ranking, along with distance and relevance. A steady flow of genuine reviews matters more than a burst.
Replying to reviews, including the negative ones, shows that the business is active. Our local SEO service covers profile setup, review requests that follow the rules, and reporting from Search Console. For a deeper walk-through, see how to improve SEO on your Google Business Profile.
Mistakes that make reviews disappear
- Staff writing reviews from the office network.
- Asking for ten reviews on the same day from one device.
- Review gating: sending unhappy customers to private feedback and happy ones to Google.
- Offering discounts in exchange for reviews.
- Reusing a template review text that customers paste.
