Platform: Shopify Plus
Shopify Plus agency work, and how to tell if you need it
Plus is not a bigger theme. It is a different set of tools for checkout, wholesale and multiple stores. We help you decide before you pay for it.
In short
Shopify Plus is Shopify's plan for high-volume and complex merchants. It adds checkout customization, B2B tools, automation and support for several stores under one account. Most stores do not need it yet. We run a short set of tests on your sales, checkout and wholesale needs, and recommend Plus only when a standard plan is the limit.
Five tests before you pay for Plus
Upgrading is a plan change, so the useful question is what you will do with it. Work through these in order. If you answer no to all five, stay on a standard plan and spend the difference on the store itself.
- Does checkout block sales?Look at your checkout drop-off in analytics. If the gap is caused by something you cannot change on a standard plan, such as a custom delivery rule or a payment step, Plus becomes relevant.
- Do you sell to businesses?Company accounts, price lists per customer and payment terms are the strongest reason to move. If wholesale is a side line handled by email, you can wait.
- Do you run more than one store?Separate stores for regions or brands can sit under one organization. Be honest about the extra admin that comes with each one.
- Do you automate by hand today? If staff copy order data between tools every morning, workflow automation and Shopify Flow may pay for themselves.
- Is traffic spiky?Flash sales and product drops stress checkout. Ask Shopify about the plan terms for your expected peaks, and test with a rehearsal.
Standard Shopify versus Plus in practice
| Area | Standard plans | Plus adds |
|---|---|---|
| Checkout | Branding and a set of approved extensions | Deeper customization through checkout extensibility and Shopify Functions |
| Wholesale | Workable with apps | Native company accounts, catalogs and payment terms |
| Several stores | Separate accounts | Stores managed under one organization |
| Automation | Limited by plan | Flow and scheduled launches |
| Support | Standard | Dedicated Plus support |
| Cost | Fixed monthly plans | Priced by Shopify, tied to revenue; confirm on their site |
We do not resell Shopify plans and we do not quote Plus fees. Shopify sets them, and they change. For our own fees we give a fixed quote after a short call.
What we have built on Shopify
Blume is the closest match on our work page. It is a USA skincare brand that wanted a platform able to handle high traffic, a clean experience for a young, socially active audience, and room to add products. We built it on Shopify with Figma for design, hosted on Amazon cloud, over four months. The case study reports a 35% rise in conversion rate and a 50% rise in site traffic.
Belvra is a one-product Shopify store where the page itself had to explain the formula and the weekly ritual. Neither project is listed as a Plus store, and we do not claim they are. They show how we handle design and conversion on the platform you would be upgrading within.
Gotchas on Plus builds
- Old checkout code. Customizations made with the older checkout template and Scripts have been phased out in favor of checkout extensibility and Functions. If your store relies on them, the migration is real work. Check Shopify's current deadlines and plan it first.
- App compatibility. Some apps that touch checkout or discounts behave differently once extensibility is on. We test each one on a development store before the cutover.
- Stock across stores. Several stores do not share inventory by themselves. Decide early whether you sync stock with an app, a warehouse system, or by region.
- Markets and URLs. Selling in several countries brings currency, tax and domain choices. A subfolder or a separate domain affects SEO, so the plan includes hreflang tags.
- B2B pricing complexity. Many price lists and catalogs become hard to audit. Keep rules few, name them clearly and document who owns each.
- Staff permissions. A bigger team means more accounts. Set roles tightly, and remove access when people leave.
Timeline
Moving an existing store to Plus is quick. The time goes into what you want from it.
| Scenario | Typical length | Main work |
|---|---|---|
| Upgrade only, store stays as is | 1 to 2 weeks | Plan change, app and checkout audit, staff roles |
| Upgrade with checkout and B2B setup | 4 to 8 weeks | Extensions, price lists, company accounts, testing |
| Replatform to Plus from another system | 3 to 5 months | Design, data import, redirects, launch |
| Add a second market store | 4 to 6 weeks | Duplicate setup, currency, tax, SEO tags |
The replatform range matches the four months Blume took, but every store differs. Request a fixed quote after a short call, or read Shopify vs Shopify Plus first.
