AI visibility checker

AI visibility checker

A short audit of the things you control: crawler access, page structure, entity signals and measurement. You get a score out of 20 and a fix list in priority order.

Answer honestly; unsure means no

In short

The AI visibility checker scores five things you control that decide whether answer engines can find, read and quote your site: crawler access in robots.txt, a clear answer near the top of each page, structured data, consistent brand and entity facts, and measurement. It returns a score out of 20 and a fix list in priority order.

What the checker looks at

AI answer engines such as ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Google's AI features pull from pages they can crawl and parse. The checker tests the parts of that chain that sit on your side. It does not claim to read what any engine will say about you, because those answers vary by question and change over time.

AreaPointsWhat earns them
Crawler access5robots.txt does not block the search and user-fetch bots you want, and key pages return a normal status
Answerable pages5Each target page opens with a direct answer of 40 to 70 words and uses question headings
Structured data4Organization, plus Article, FAQ, Product or LocalBusiness where they match the visible content
Entity consistency3Name, address, services and profiles match across your site and listings
Measurement3You record AI referrals and test a fixed set of questions on a schedule

Inputs

  • Your robots.txt text, pasted in. The checker reads the rules for GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, ClaudeBot, Claude-User, Claude-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, Perplexity-User, Google-Extended and Applebot-Extended.
  • Up to 10 buyer questions, written as a customer would type them.
  • Yes or no answers to a short list of page and measurement questions.

If you are unsure of an answer, choose no. A fair score is more useful than a flattering one.

How to read the score

ScoreMeaningNext step
0 to 7Engines may not be able to use your pagesFix crawler access and add direct answers first
8 to 14Readable, but not built to be quotedAdd structure, question headings and schema
15 to 20A sound baseWork on mentions from other sites and keep testing

A blocked bot is not always a mistake. Some publishers block training crawlers on purpose while allowing search and user-fetch bots. The checker lists each bot separately so you can see the choice you have made.

Worked example: a robots.txt that blocks by accident

A site carries a rule that disallows everything for all agents on the staging server, and that file was copied to the live site at launch. The checker shows every bot as blocked, scores crawler access 0 of 5, and puts that fix at the top of the list. One line removed from robots.txt changes more than any content work could.

What the score cannot tell you

A high score does not mean an engine will cite you. Citations depend on the question, the competition and what other sites say about you. The checker measures readiness. For the full picture we run question tests by hand and report them next to your own Search Console and referral data. See AI search optimization, GEO and the GEO checklist.

Questions, answered

Does the checker tell me if ChatGPT mentions my brand?
No. It checks readiness on your side. Brand mentions need manual question tests, because answers differ by wording and change over time.
Should I allow every AI crawler?
It is your decision. Allowing search and user-fetch bots lets engines read your pages when users ask. Blocking training bots is a separate choice about how your content is reused.
Does llms.txt improve this score?
It is not scored. Support among engines is unconfirmed, so we treat it as optional. Our llms.txt generator can create one if you want it.
How often should I rerun it?
After every large site change, and once a quarter otherwise. Keep the same ten questions each time so you can compare.
