How to improve SEO for SaaS companies

SaaS SEO goes wrong when it starts with a blog about the topic. It goes right when it starts with the pages buyers read right before a trial.

In short

To improve SEO for a SaaS company, build pages in order of buying intent: product and use-case pages, comparison and alternatives pages, integrations, pricing explainers, then educational content. Fix crawl and rendering problems on the app marketing site, link the pages together, and measure trials and demo requests, not only traffic.

Why SaaS SEO is different

A SaaS buyer usually has a problem, a list of tools and a team to convince. Three things follow from that. Searches are often about a job to be done, not a product category. Comparison searches are common. And the buyer needs proof, such as integrations, security and pricing, before booking a demo.

Your site is also probably built with a JavaScript framework, which adds a technical layer: can Google and AI crawlers read the text that your pages render?

Page types in order of priority

Educational content still matters, but it earns trials slowly. Build the earlier rows first and add guides once they are in place.

The working order

  1. Check rendering and indexingFetch a page as Google would in Search Console's URL Inspection tool and compare it to what you see in a browser. Make sure headings, body text and links exist in the HTML, not only after scripts run.
  2. Separate marketing pages from the appKeep the logged-in app out of the index with noindex or by blocking it, and keep the marketing site on a clear folder or subdomain with its own sitemap.
  3. Map one page to each buying searchList the jobs your product does and the tools buyers compare you with. One page per job, one per serious competitor.
  4. Write each page like a sales callWho it is for, the problem, how the product solves it, a screenshot or short walkthrough, integrations, security basics, pricing logic, the next step.
  5. Link feature, use-case and comparison pages to each otherA visitor reading about a feature should see the use case and the comparison in one click. So should a crawler.
  6. Track beyond trafficSend trial starts and demo requests to analytics with the landing page as the source, so you see which pages actually produce pipeline.

How to write an honest comparison page

Comparison pages are among the most read pages in SaaS, and among the most distrusted. Make yours useful.

  • State who each tool suits. If a rival is better for very small teams or a specific region, say so.
  • Use a table with facts a reader can verify, and check them quarterly.
  • Give a short, plain recommendation per situation.
  • Do not misrepresent a rival. Wrong claims cost you trust and can create legal trouble.

A page that admits where you are not the right fit tends to win the buyers who would have converted anyway, and filters out those who would churn.

Traps specific to SaaS

Where we have worked on this

We built landing pages on WordPress for Interakt in a two-week window, with speed and brand consistency in mind, and you can read the details on the Interakt project page. For a SaaS site we assess crawling, page types and tracking first, as set out on our SaaS SEO service page and in the SaaS SEO checklist. A fixed quote follows a short call on the contact page.

Questions, answered

How long does SaaS SEO take to produce trials?
Bottom-of-funnel pages on a site with some authority can start to bring trials within a few months. On a new domain, expect longer, because trust has to be built before competitive terms move.
Should a SaaS company blog?
Yes, but after the product, use-case and comparison pages exist. A blog helps with early research, and each post should lead somewhere on your site.
Is programmatic SEO safe for SaaS?
It is safe when every generated page carries something unique, such as real data or a specific integration. It is risky when pages differ only by a keyword swapped into a template.
Do I need a separate domain for the marketing site?
Not necessarily. A clear folder or subdomain is enough if the marketing pages are crawlable and the app is kept out of the index.
What metrics should a SaaS team track?
Impressions and clicks by page type, trial starts and demo requests by landing page, and how many qualified leads came from organic search.
