SEO content writing examples, weak and rewritten

Rules are easy to nod at and hard to apply. These annotated examples show the same piece of content before and after, with the reason for each change.

In short

Good SEO content writing examples share the same traits: the title names the question, the opening answers it, headings describe what follows, meta descriptions make a promise the page keeps, and service pages give specifics instead of slogans. The examples below show weak and improved versions side by side. All businesses named are invented for illustration.

Titles and meta descriptions

The title decides whether someone clicks. The description supports it. Both should say what the page gives.

ElementWeakRewrittenWhy it works
TitlePlumbing Services | Smith Plumbing | HomeEmergency plumber in Leeds: callout times and what it coversNames the need, the place and a concrete detail
TitleOur Blog Post About KettlesHow to descale a kettle with vinegar, step by stepMatches the exact question
Meta descriptionWelcome to our site. We offer many services at great prices.Burst pipe or no hot water? See which jobs we attend within two hours in Leeds and how callout billing works.Speaks to the reader's problem and sets expectation
Meta descriptionRead our guide to learn more.Five steps to descale a kettle safely, the vinegar ratio that works and what to avoid on stainless steel.Tells the reader what they will get

Keep titles to about 60 characters and descriptions to about 155 so they are less likely to be cut off. Google may rewrite either one if it thinks another snippet fits the search better.

Openings that answer

Weak version: In today's busy world, many people wonder about kettles. Kettles are an essential part of every home, and over time they build up limescale. In this article we will look at the topic in depth.

Rewritten: To descale a kettle, fill it halfway with equal parts white vinegar and water, boil it, let it sit for twenty minutes, then rinse twice. Repeat if scale remains. Avoid vinegar on kettles with an aluminum interior.

The rewrite gives the answer, the method and the main warning in three sentences. A reader who wants only that can leave satisfied. A reader who wants more keeps going, and the page has still earned its place in the results.

Headings that carry meaning

Weak headingRewritten heading
IntroductionWhat limescale does to a kettle
Step 1Fill and boil with the vinegar mix
TipsWhat not to use on stainless steel or aluminum
ConclusionHow often to descale in hard water areas

Someone who scrolls past only the headings should still understand the page. That is also how a search engine and a screen reader skim.

A service page, rewritten

Invented business: a Bristol accountancy firm for freelancers.

Weak: We are a dynamic firm offering tailored financial solutions to meet your needs. Our team of professionals is dedicated to your success.

Rewritten: We prepare self-assessment tax returns for freelancers in Bristol. Send us your income and expense records by 31 December, and we file by mid-January. You get a summary of what you owe, what you can reclaim and what to set aside for next year.

The second version names the audience, the task, the deadline and the deliverable. It uses almost every word to tell the reader something, which is also what lets it match the long, specific searches freelancers type.

FAQ answers

Weak: Yes, we can help with that. Please contact us for more information.

Rewritten, for the question Can I claim my home office? Yes, if you use a room regularly for work. You can claim a share of heating and electricity or use the flat-rate method. Keep a note of the hours worked from home.

The rewritten answer works alone. A search engine or an AI assistant can quote it without needing the rest of the page, which is why short, self-contained answers do well.

What the examples have in common

  • A specific reader, place or situation appears in the first line.
  • Each sentence adds information. Slogans are cut.
  • Headings, titles and answers can be understood alone.
  • Numbers, steps and conditions replace adjectives.
  • The page stops when the subject is covered.

Apply the same pattern to your own pages, one element at a time. For the full process behind a new page, read how to write SEO content. To plan a batch, use the SEO content brief template, and if you prefer to commission the work, see SEO content writing services and request a fixed quote through the contact page.

Questions, answered

Where can I see real SEO content examples?
Search for your own target query and read the top results with a critical eye. Pick the elements that work, such as a direct opening or a clear table, and compare them with the ones that waste time.
Are these examples from client work?
No. The businesses are invented so we can show a before and after without exposing anyone's content or implying results.
Should every page have an FAQ?
Only where readers have real follow-up questions. Add questions you hear from customers rather than ones invented to fill space.
Does a meta description affect ranking?
Not directly. It influences whether people click your result, which matters for traffic.
How long should a service page be?
Long enough to cover who it is for, what happens, what the buyer gets, how long it takes and common questions. For many services that is 600 to 1,200 words.
Can I reuse these rewrites?
Use the patterns, not the sentences. Your own facts, places and numbers are what make a page useful and distinct.
