SEO for HVAC

SEO for HVAC companies: a seasonal local plan

HVAC search is local, urgent and seasonal. A heater fails in January, an air conditioner fails in July, and the company that appears first gets the call.

In short

SEO for HVAC means ranking in the map pack and organic results for repair, installation and maintenance searches in your service area. Build a complete Google Business Profile, one strong page per service and per city you really serve, collect reviews steadily, track calls by source, and prepare seasonal pages before demand peaks.

Know the three kinds of HVAC searches

People do not all search the same way, and each type needs a different page and a different expectation of speed.

Search typeExampleBuyer statePage that fits
Emergency repairac not cooling near meNeeds help today, will call the first credible resultService page with a visible phone number, hours and response area
Replacement and installationnew furnace installation costResearching for days or weeks, comparing quotesDetailed page with process, brands you fit, financing information and photos of real jobs
Maintenance and plansannual hvac tune upPlanning ahead, low urgencyPlan page with what a visit includes and how booking works

Emergency searches pay off fastest and are won mostly on the map pack. Replacement searches are worth the most per job and are won by pages that answer cost and timing questions honestly.

Step by step

  1. Fix your Google Business ProfileChoose the primary category that matches your main work, add secondary categories for the rest, list the services, set accurate hours (including emergency hours if you offer them) and add real photos of vans, technicians and finished jobs.
  2. Define your service area truthfullyList the towns you actually reach. Claiming cities two hours away draws calls you cannot take and reviews from nobody there.
  3. Build one page per serviceSeparate pages for AC repair, furnace repair, heat pump installation, duct cleaning and so on. Each should say what you do, how a visit works, what affects the price, and which areas you cover.
  4. Add city pages only where you have substanceA page for each town works when it carries local detail: job photos in that town, typical building types, local permit or rebate information you have checked. A page that swaps the city name in a template is thin and may be ignored.
  5. Collect reviews as a habitAsk at the end of each job, by text, with a direct link. Reply to every review, including negative ones, in a calm and factual tone.
  6. Track calls by sourceUse a tracking number on the website and a separate one on the profile, so you know which channel brings booked jobs rather than just rings.

Work to the calendar

Demand swings sharply. Rankings take weeks to build, so seasonal work has to start before the peak.

What to put on a service page

  • Plain description of the problem and what the technician checks first.
  • The brands and system types you work on.
  • How you price: flat rate, diagnostic fee, or estimate after inspection. Say which.
  • Licensing and insurance details as your state or country requires them to be shown.
  • Photos of your own team and work, not stock images.
  • A phone number that can be tapped on mobile, and a short form for non-urgent requests.

Add LocalBusiness and Service structured data so search engines can read the same details a customer sees. Make sure the name, address and phone number match your Google profile exactly.

Pitfalls specific to HVAC

  • Using a virtual office or a post box address on the profile. Google can suspend profiles that misrepresent location.
  • Listing yourself in the same category as a competitor without enough real detail. Be specific about what you actually fix or install.
  • Buying a lead directory listing that takes over your phone number. Keep control of your own domain and number.
  • Slow pages. Most emergency visitors are on a phone and will go back to the results after a few seconds.
  • Answering calls late. A ranking only helps if someone picks up. Missed calls need a text back or an after-hours service.

If calls come in faster than staff can take them, an AI customer service setup can answer common questions and book visits, but ranking first still depends on the profile and pages above.

How we would approach it

We start with a local SEO review of the profile, citations and existing pages, then the technical health of the site, then the service and city pages. Reporting comes from your own Search Console and call tracking. The local SEO checklist shows the steps in full. You get a fixed quote after a short call on the contact page.

Questions, answered

How long does SEO take for an HVAC company?
Map pack improvements from a fixed profile and new reviews can show in weeks. Organic page rankings for competitive terms usually take several months. Start before your busy season, not during it.
Do HVAC companies need a blog?
Not first. Service and city pages that bring calls matter more. A few useful guides, such as how long a furnace lasts or what a tune-up includes, can help once the main pages are in place.
Should I make a page for every city?
Only for cities you serve and can say something real about. Fewer strong pages work better than dozens of near-identical ones.
Do Google reviews matter for HVAC rankings?
Yes, for the map pack and for buyer trust. Quantity, recency and the content of the reviews all play a part. Ask every customer and answer each review.
Is paid advertising better than SEO for HVAC?
Paid search gets calls today and suits a quiet week. SEO builds slowly and keeps working. Many companies run both and watch which source books the most jobs.
