Australia web development

Web development agency for Australia

We build and maintain websites for Australian businesses remotely from India. Here is what changes when the site serves Australian visitors: the Privacy Act, domain rules, price display, and a call schedule that works across Sydney, Perth and Brisbane.

In short

Liftup Technologies builds websites for Australian businesses on WordPress, Shopify, Webflow and Next.js. Because customer data is accessed from India, we plan around Australian Privacy Principle 8 on overseas disclosure. Sites show GST-inclusive prices, and calls fall in the Australian afternoon, which is the Indian morning. Quotes are fixed after a short call.

Five things an Australian site has to get right

A website is not just a design. When it serves Australian visitors, a few local requirements decide how it is built. This is the list we work through in the first call.

  1. Domain eligibilityA .com.au name needs an Australian presence, such as an ABN, ACN or a registered trade mark. Check who will hold the registration before the build starts, because moving it later wastes days.
  2. Privacy policy and collection noticesThe Privacy Act 1988 and its thirteen Australian Privacy Principles expect a clear policy and a notice at the point where a form collects personal details.
  3. GST-inclusive pricingAustralian Consumer Law expects consumer prices to be shown as one total including GST. Product pages, carts and checkout all need to agree.
  4. Spam Act email rulesNewsletter signups need consent, sender identity and a working unsubscribe. We wire the form to your mailing tool with those fields built in.
  5. AccessibilityThe Disability Discrimination Act is read alongside WCAG guidance, so contrast, keyboard use and form labels are tested before launch.

Sending customer data to an offshore team

This is the question Australian owners should ask any agency in India. Under Australian Privacy Principle 8, an organization that discloses personal information to an overseas recipient must generally take reasonable steps to make sure the recipient does not breach the APPs, and it can stay accountable if the recipient does. In plain terms: you are still responsible for your customers' data when a developer in another country can see it.

The practical controls are not exotic. Work happens in a staging copy with fake or anonymized data. Production access is limited to named people, for a stated period, through accounts you can revoke. A short written agreement records those limits. If your site holds health, financial or other sensitive records, say so on the first call, because it changes how we work.

Many very small businesses fall under a turnover threshold of three million Australian dollars and are exempt from some of the Act, with exceptions for areas like health services. Ask your adviser which side you are on. Also note that new automated decision-making transparency duties are scheduled to begin in December 2026.

Call times across Australian cities

India Standard Time is UTC+5:30 and does not change. Australia has several zones and most of the east coast moves its clocks in October and April. Today, late October, Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra are on daylight time, while Brisbane and Perth are not.

CityGap from India now2:00 p.m. there equals
Sydney and Melbourne (AEDT)5 hours 30 minutes ahead8:30 a.m. IST
Brisbane (AEST)4 hours 30 minutes ahead9:30 a.m. IST
Adelaide (ACDT)5 hours ahead9:00 a.m. IST
Perth (AWST)2 hours 30 minutes ahead11:30 a.m. IST

So an Australian afternoon is an Indian morning. Perth and Brisbane overlap comfortably with the Indian morning, while Sydney and Melbourne meetings suit the early afternoon. When daylight saving ends in early April, Sydney and Melbourne move to a gap of 4 hours 30 minutes.

What web projects cost, and why currency matters

Market data from Clutch says most web projects cost under $10,000 and that the average project is $66,499. Those figures are in US dollars. Our own work is quoted as a fixed price after a short call, and the currency is something to agree in the proposal.

If you budget in Australian dollars against a US dollar benchmark, exchange rates matter more than people expect. A 5 percent move in the rate shifts a $10,000 project by $500, and the same move shifts a $66,499 project by about $3,325. For a fixed-price build, ask for the quote in a single currency, written down, with the invoice schedule.

  • Small brochure site or landing page: usually the low end of the Clutch range.
  • Online store with product feeds, tax rules and payments: moves toward the average.
  • Custom web app with logins and integrations: priced from scope, not from a benchmark.

For a rough number before talking to anyone, the website cost calculator explains the inputs.

Platforms we use for Australian projects

The platform depends on who edits the site afterwards. A clinic or trades business with one marketing person usually fits WordPress or Webflow. A retailer selling across states fits Shopify, which handles GST-inclusive display and shipping zones natively. A software product with logins is a job for Next.js or a web app build.

A real example of an online store we built is A’YUCO, a WordPress and WooCommerce matcha shop, and Belvra is a single-product Shopify launch. Neither is Australian, but both show the store builds we do remotely.

Questions, answered

Do we need an Australian ABN to work with you?
No. You need one if you want to register a .com.au domain yourself, because auDA requires an Australian presence. Your ABN is not a condition for hiring us.
Who owns the website and the data afterwards?
You do. Domain registration, hosting accounts and code repositories are set up in your name wherever possible, so you can change vendor without a handover fight.
How do you handle customer data under the Privacy Act?
We build against anonymized staging data and limit production access to named people for a set period. If you disclose personal information to us as an overseas recipient, APP 8 applies, so we recommend a short written agreement.
Can you show prices including GST?
Yes. We configure the store or site so every consumer price appears as one total including GST, and test cart and checkout so the numbers agree.
Is a call in the Australian morning possible?
From Perth, yes, because it is the early Indian morning. From Sydney a 9 a.m. call is 3:30 a.m. in India, so we normally meet from lunchtime onward.
