Where chatbots earn their place in Ireland

The best first use is the question your staff answer every day. In Irish firms that is often opening hours and booking, delivery times, fees, what documents a customer should bring, or which service covers which county. A bot trained on your own pages and policies handles these around the clock and passes anything unusual to a person.

Data protection: what the bot must do

A chat transcript is personal data, and sometimes sensitive data. The Data Protection Commission (DPC) regulates this under GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Cookies and similar technologies on the chat widget fall under the ePrivacy Regulations 2011. Check final wording with your solicitor, and we build the following into the product.

• A short notice before the first message says what is collected, why and for how long.
• The widget does not set non-essential cookies until the visitor agrees.
• A visible line that the user is talking to an AI, with a button for a person.
• A retention rule, for example deleting transcripts after a set number of days.
• No answers about health, money or legal advice beyond what you have approved.
• A way to find and delete one person's chats, so you can answer a data access request.

Ireland's digital age of consent is 16, so a bot on a site used by teenagers should not collect their details without a parent. We design the age handling with you.

Accuracy, language and testing

A bot is only as good as the content behind it. We build a retrieval layer over your pages, price lists and policies, and instruct the bot to say it does not know when the answer is missing. For Irish firms we also test local phrasing, such as Eircodes, county names and Irish place spellings, and check that prices appear in euro with VAT stated.

Many Irish residents speak Polish, Portuguese or other languages at home, so multilingual support can lift usefulness. Irish-language support is possible, but it needs a fluent reviewer, because models can produce awkward text. Run a test pass with awkward input before launch. Type a question with a spelling mistake, paste an Eircode in the middle of a sentence, ask something off topic, and try to make the bot promise a discount. Each failure becomes a rule or a content fix, and we keep the list so you can repeat the test after every content change.

Winter in Ireland is GMT, which puts India 5.5 hours ahead. Staff testing sessions work best in the first half of your morning, when our afternoon overlaps. In summer, Irish Standard Time narrows the gap to 4.5 hours.

Our work is remote. When we see personal data from your chats, that counts as a transfer outside the EU, so we agree standard contractual clauses and test on masked data where possible.
