In short

Liftup Technologies builds AI chatbots for Australian businesses, working remotely from India. A project covers the content the bot answers from, the OpenAI or Claude model behind it, the web chat or messaging channel, handover to a person, and privacy checks against the Privacy Act 1988. After a short call you receive a fixed quote within one working day.

What an Australian chatbot has to get right

A chatbot speaks for your business. Under the Australian Consumer Law, a wrong answer about price, refunds or delivery can be treated like any other statement you made to a customer. That is why accuracy and a clear limit on what the bot may say come before tone or branding.

RiskWhat it looks likeHow we reduce it
Wrong refund or warranty answerThe bot promises something your policy does not allowAnswer only from approved policy text; send anything unclear to staff
Personal information in chatCustomers type names, addresses, health or account detailsPrivacy notice in the chat window, redaction of obvious identifiers in logs, short retention
Overseas processingMessages pass to a model provider or an offshore teamDisclose it in your privacy policy and review APP 8 with your lawyer
Made-up factsThe model fills a gap with a plausible guessRetrieval from your documents, a refusal path and weekly review of unanswered questions
Unwanted marketingThe bot collects an email and later sends promotionsCapture consent separately, in line with the Spam Act 2003

Privacy Act and overseas disclosure

The Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles apply to many Australian businesses, particularly those above the annual turnover threshold and any that handle health information. APP 1 expects a clear privacy policy, APP 5 expects notice at the time personal information is collected, and APP 8 covers disclosure to overseas recipients. A chatbot that sends chat text to a model hosted offshore is a disclosure to think through.

We give you a data-flow sketch showing where each message goes, what is stored, and for how long. Your lawyer can then decide how to word the notice. We also tell you what the chosen model provider says about using API data, taken from its own documentation and not from our assumptions.

Where Australians expect to chat

  • On the website, as a small launcher that does not cover the checkout button on phones.
  • In WhatsApp, Instagram or Facebook Messenger, where a lot of small-business enquiries already arrive.
  • Inside a booking or quote flow, for trades, clinics, real estate agents and professional services that lose leads after hours.
  • As an internal assistant over your own documents for staff in the office or the field.

Our AI chatbot development service page lists the stack options, and the AI chatbot cost calculator gives an early range.

A first-month plan

  1. Week 1: scopePick the ten to twenty questions that make up most of your enquiries, and gather the source documents.
  2. Week 2: buildIndex the content, write the system instructions, set the refusal and handover rules.
  3. Week 3: testStaff try to break the bot with real past enquiries. We log every wrong or evasive answer.
  4. Week 4: soft launchRelease to a share of visitors, review transcripts weekly, then widen.

Calls fall in your morning or afternoon, depending on your city. Sydney and Melbourne are an hour further ahead of India during daylight saving, and Perth is two and a half hours ahead all year, so we repeat the time in both zones on every invite.

Measuring whether it works

A chatbot is only useful if it resolves enquiries or captures leads you would otherwise lose. We set three measures before launch: the share of chats that end without a staff member, the share handed over with the contact details collected, and the number of answers staff mark as wrong. Each week we review a sample of transcripts with you, fix the source content where the gap is, and retest.

After-hours coverage is the usual first win in Australia. A bot that answers at 9 pm and books a call for the next morning is a clear improvement for a small business, provided it never invents a price or promises a time you cannot meet. We write those limits into the instructions and test them again after every change.

Cost

Projects start at $1,500 and the rate is $30 an hour, in US dollars. Volume matters less than scope: the number of channels, the number of source systems, handover to a live team and any booking or CRM integration drive the quote. Running costs, namely model usage and hosting, are separate and we estimate them in the quote. See the AI chatbot cost guide for typical drivers, and the wider Australia AI page for how we handle data.

Questions, answered

Can the chatbot take bookings or payments?
It can collect booking details and pass them to your calendar or CRM. We keep payment capture on your existing payment page rather than inside the chat.
Will the bot sound Australian?
Yes. We write instructions in Australian English, with local terms where your customers use them, and test the tone on real questions.
Is our data used to train the model?
That depends on the provider and plan. We read the current API data terms with you and choose settings accordingly, then record the position in the project notes.
What happens when the bot cannot answer?
It says so, offers to pass the chat to a person or collect contact details, and logs the question for review.
Do we need an Australian host?
Not by law for most businesses, but some buyers ask for it. Tell us on the first call and we will price the options.
