In short

Liftup Technologies develops iOS and Android apps for businesses in Japan, working remotely from India with calls booked in Japanese working hours. We build in React Native or Flutter, localize the interface into Japanese, connect payments, login and notifications, and prepare store submissions. Projects start at $1,500, and you receive a fixed quote within one working day of a short call.

Who needs an app in Japan, and who does not

Smartphone use in Japan is high and many customers expect a loyalty app, an ordering app or a booking app from a retail or service brand. But an app is a bigger commitment than a mobile site. If the main need is information and enquiries, a fast website is cheaper to run. An app earns its place when users return often, need push notifications, use the camera or location, or work offline.

We start every scoping call with that question. Some projects end up as a progressive web feature on a site, and some as a full app. We will say which one fits.

Payments, tax and store rules

Payment in an app depends on what is sold. Physical goods and real-world services can use external payment providers, with cards, PayPay and others available through providers that support them. Digital content and subscriptions inside the app fall under the platform's in-app purchase rules. Japan's smartphone software competition law, which took full effect in December 2025, changes some of those rules, so we check current Apple and Google policy at scoping rather than assume.

Consumer prices are shown including consumption tax. The app also needs a privacy policy and in-app disclosures that match what the app collects. Japan's data law, APPI, is overseen by the Personal Information Protection Commission. Your lawyer should confirm the wording. We prepare the store privacy answers for Apple and Google from the actual data flows.

Build, test and release

  1. Scope and prototypeClickable screens and a fixed feature list for version one.
  2. Build in React Native or FlutterOne codebase for iOS and Android, with weekly test builds sent to your phones.
  3. Device testingReal devices, Japanese keyboards, large text settings and slow networks.
  4. Store submissionListing text in Japanese, screenshots, privacy answers and review notes. You hold the developer accounts.

Review times vary, so we add buffer to the plan. Releases avoid Golden Week and the year-end break, when your team may be away to answer review questions.

Working across the time gap

Japan is 3.5 hours ahead of India, so 10:30 in Pune is 14:00 in Tokyo. Test builds arrive during your afternoon, and feedback sent in the evening can be picked up the next morning in India. We work remotely and do not have a studio in Japan. For a web-first alternative, see web app development for Japan.

Push notifications, LINE and analytics

Push messages bring users back, and they also create privacy duties. Users must see a clear prompt in Japanese explaining why notifications are useful before the system permission dialog appears. We send through Firebase Cloud Messaging and Apple's push service, and we keep marketing messages separate from order updates so users can switch one off.

Many Japanese brands pair an app with a LINE Official Account. The app handles ordering and account features, LINE handles reminders and campaigns. We connect them where it adds value and avoid two channels sending the same message.

  • Every analytics or advertising SDK is listed in the privacy policy and in the store privacy answers.
  • We keep the SDK count low, since each one adds data flows and app size.
  • Crash reporting is on from the first test build, so problems are fixed before store review.

Yearly iOS and Android releases bring OS changes, so budget some hours each autumn for compatibility updates.

Price

Projects start at $1,500 and our rate is $30 an hour, with a fixed quote after a call on the contact page. Number of screens, back-end work, payments, notifications and admin tools move the price. Read the web app cost guide for comparable drivers, or the mobile app development service page for the full method.

Questions, answered

Should we build native iOS and Android or one cross-platform app?
For most business apps, React Native or Flutter gives one codebase and lower cost. Apps with heavy graphics or special hardware needs may justify native code. We explain the trade-off in the quote.
Can the app use LINE login?
Yes, LINE Login can be added through LINE's developer tools. On iOS, check the current Apple rules about offering Sign in with Apple alongside other social logins.
Who owns the developer accounts?
You do. Apple and Google accounts are registered to your company, and we are added as team members.
How long does review take?
It varies by store and by app. We plan a buffer for the first submission and for any rejection fixes.
Do you provide support after launch?
Yes, on an hourly basis at $30 an hour or a monthly arrangement agreed in the quote.
