In short

Liftup Technologies provides SEO and AI search optimization for Norwegian businesses, working remotely from India. The programme starts with technical fixes, then bokmål content and links tuned for google.no, with hreflang nb-NO, krone pricing and consent set up for Norwegian privacy rules. Results come from your own Google Search Console. You get a fixed quote within one working day of a short call.

Why Norway needs its own search plan

Norway has about five and a half million people and a very online population. Most of them read English well, which tempts companies to publish one English site and stop. The trouble is that people still search in Norwegian for products, prices and local services. An English page rarely wins those queries.

A good plan therefore starts with a language decision. Written Norwegian has two standards, bokmål and nynorsk. Nearly all commercial search happens in bokmål, so that is the default for a first rollout. Nynorsk is a later step, relevant mainly for public-facing brands in regions where it is the local standard.

Search behaviour also differs by sector. Local services such as clinics, craftsmen and accountants lean on Google Maps and Business Profile. Consumer products lean on Shopping results and comparison sites. B2B suppliers, including those in energy, maritime and seafood, are often found through English technical terms but chosen through Norwegian pages and references. One plan rarely fits all three, so we build the keyword map around your buyer, not around a generic list.

What the programme covers

Domains and site structure

The .no domain is managed by Norid. As a rule it requires a Norwegian registered organisation, so a foreign company cannot always buy one on its own. Which setup fits depends on who is selling.

  • Norwegian company: register a .no domain and serve bokmål by default. This is the clearest signal of the market.
  • Foreign company without a Norwegian entity: use a /no/ folder on your main domain, prices in kroner, and hreflang nb-NO pointing to your other language versions.
  • Selling in several Nordic countries: keep each country in its own folder or domain and do not reuse Swedish or Danish text, because readers notice.

Our hreflang generator produces the tags, and the international SEO checklist lists what to verify before launch.

Privacy and cookie rules that touch SEO work

Norway is part of the EEA, not the EU, but the GDPR applies through the Personal Data Act (personopplysningsloven). The regulator is Datatilsynet. Cookies and similar tracking are covered by the Electronic Communications Act, so analytics, remarketing tags and heat-map scripts normally wait for a clear choice from the visitor.

That affects SEO reporting. If most visitors decline analytics, your own analytics will undercount, while Google Search Console still shows impressions and clicks. We rely on Search Console for the main picture and treat analytics as a secondary view. Check specifics with your lawyer.

Listings, trust and links

Norwegian buyers check who stands behind a company. Make sure your name, organisation number, address and phone match across your site, Google Business Profile and the business registers and directories people actually use, such as Gule Sider and Proff. Consistent details help both people and search engines tie the pages to one real company.

For links, we look for relevant Norwegian sources first: trade associations, local press, supplier and partner pages, and event sites. A small number of relevant links beats a large pile of generic ones. We do not buy links or use private blog networks, and we show you every target before outreach starts.

Working from India for a Norwegian team

Our team is in Pune, and we work remotely for Norwegian clients with calls booked in your working hours. Norway is 4 hours 30 minutes behind India in winter and 3 hours 30 minutes behind in summer, so a 09:00 call in Oslo is 13:30 or 12:30 in India. Norwegian offices often close around 16:00, so morning slots work best.

Each phase ends with a short written update, and one named lead handles your account so you do not repeat yourself to new people.

Pricing guidance

Public pricing: projects start at $1,500, and our hourly rate is $30. After a short call you get a fixed quote in writing, usually within one working day. The size of the site, the number of pages to rewrite and the amount of link work move the price most. Our SEO cost guide explains the drivers. Ask for the quote in the currency you pay in, because the krone moves against the dollar.

Questions, answered

Do I need a .no domain to rank in Norway?
No. A .no domain is a strong signal, but Norid generally requires a Norwegian registered organisation. A foreign site can rank with a /no/ section, bokmål text, hreflang nb-NO and kroner prices.
Should the site be in bokmål or nynorsk?
Start with bokmål, which covers the large majority of commercial search. Add nynorsk only when your audience or contracts call for it.
How long before results show?
Technical fixes can appear in Search Console within weeks. New content and links usually take months, depending on competition. Our guide on how long SEO takes explains the stages.
Do you cover AI search tools as well as Google?
Yes. We prepare pages so ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's AI answers can find and quote them, covering crawler access, clear company facts and short answer passages.
Do you have an office in Norway?
No. We work remotely from India, with offices in Pune, Coventry and New York, and book calls in Norwegian working hours.
Can you handle local SEO for a business in Oslo, Bergen or Trondheim?
Yes. Our local SEO work covers Google Business Profile, location pages and citations. We choose the city and area terms from real Norwegian queries.
