In short

Liftup Technologies builds AI agents for businesses in Japan, working remotely from India with calls booked in Japanese working hours. An agent plans steps, calls tools such as your CRM, calendar or document store, and asks a person to approve risky actions. We test in Japanese, log every step and handle personal data with APPI in mind. Projects start at $1,500, with a fixed quote after a short call.

What an AI agent is, and when you need one

A chatbot answers questions. An agent works toward a goal: it reads a request, decides which tools to use, performs several steps and reports back. Examples are an agent that researches a sales prospect and drafts an email, one that reconciles supplier invoices against orders, or one that prepares a weekly operations summary from several systems.

Not every task needs an agent. If the steps never change, a plain automation workflow is cheaper and easier to audit. If customers ask questions in a chat window, a chatbot is enough. Agents suit work where the path varies with the input. Our AI agent vs chatbot comparison explains the line.

Approval flows and control

Japanese organizations often route decisions through several people. We build that into the agent instead of working around it. Each action has a risk level, and the agent either acts alone, acts and notifies, or waits for approval.

Risk levelExample actionAgent behavior
LowReading a record, summarizing a documentActs alone, logs the step
MediumDrafting an email, updating a draft recordActs and shows the result for review
HighSending a message to a customer, changing a pricePrepares the action and waits for named approver
BlockedPayments, deletions, contract changesNever done by the agent, handed to a person

Approvals can arrive through Slack, Chatwork, LINE Works or email, whichever your team already reads.

Data, APPI and model providers

An agent reads company data, often including personal information. Under APPI, overseen by the Personal Information Protection Commission, you remain responsible for personal data handled by service providers, and transfers to providers abroad have their own conditions. We map which data each tool call touches, send the model only what the task needs and keep credentials in a secret store. Your lawyer should confirm the legal basis for each use.

Japanese government bodies have published guidance on AI use by businesses. We follow the approach in outline: assign an owner, record what the agent can do and review incidents. Check the current guidance with your adviser. Our AI agent security checklist lists the controls we apply.

Testing in Japanese

  • A test set of real requests in Japanese, including polite forms, abbreviations and mixed kanji and kana.
  • Checks for tone, since a draft email that is too casual can cause offense.
  • Tests of failure cases: missing data, contradictory instructions, tools that time out.
  • A review sample each week after launch, so errors are caught and fed back into the design.

We report accuracy on your own examples, not on general benchmarks.

Project timeline

  1. Use case and risk mapOne task chosen, actions classified by risk. Japan is 3.5 hours ahead of India, so 11:00 in Pune is 14:30 in Tokyo.
  2. PrototypeA working agent on sample data, with step logs you can read.
  3. Supervised pilotEvery action reviewed by a person for several weeks.
  4. Gradual autonomyLow-risk steps run alone once results are stable. High-risk ones stay approved.

Common first agents for Japanese firms

Most first projects are narrow and internal. A sales support agent reads a new enquiry, looks up the company in your CRM, checks its public profile and drafts a polite first reply for a salesperson to edit. An operations agent watches a shared inbox for order changes, finds the matching record and prepares the update for approval. A finance helper compares supplier invoices with purchase orders and flags mismatches for an accountant.

Each of these keeps a person in charge of the outcome, and each can be measured. We count minutes saved per task, the share of drafts accepted without edits and the number of cases handed back. If the numbers are weak after the pilot, we change the design or stop, and you keep the documentation.

Cost control matters too. Agents call models many times per task, so we cap steps per run, log token use and set monthly limits in your provider account. You see the spend, and the provider bills you directly.

Price

Projects start at $1,500, with a rate of $30 an hour, and a fixed quote follows a short call on the contact page. Number of tools, risk level and testing effort move the price, and model usage is billed by the provider. The AI agent cost guide gives ranges, and our AI agent development page covers the method.

Questions, answered

Can an agent act without approval?
Only for low-risk steps you choose. Anything that reaches a customer or changes money or records waits for a person.
Which models do you use?
We use models from providers such as Anthropic and OpenAI and pick by task, cost and data needs.
Can the agent work with Japanese tools?
Often yes, through APIs for tools such as kintone, Chatwork, freee and Google Workspace. Access depends on your plan with each vendor.
How do we see what the agent did?
Every step is logged with inputs, tool calls and results, available to the owner.
What happens when the agent is unsure?
It stops and hands the case to a named person with the context it gathered.
