In short

Liftup Technologies designs websites for New Zealand businesses, working remotely from India. We plan pages around how Kiwi visitors decide, write with New Zealand spelling and tone, show GST-inclusive prices, and build forms that fit the Privacy Act 2020. The site is built on WordPress, Webflow, Shopify or Next.js. You get a fixed quote after a short call.

What Kiwi visitors look for on a business site

In a small country, trust travels fast and so does doubt. Visitors want to see that a business is real, local and easy to reach before they fill in a form. Design choices should make those signals obvious, not hide them in a footer.

Page elementWhat works for a New Zealand audienceDesign note
HeaderRegion served, a phone number and a clear contact buttonKeep it visible on mobile without covering content
Trust signalsYour NZBN, company name, real staff photos and registered body logos where they applyShow only affiliations you hold
ToneFriendly and plain, with New Zealand spelling such as colour and organiseAvoid US idioms and dollar signs without a currency label
PricesOne total in NZ dollars including 15% GSTSay clearly when a figure is excluding GST for trade customers
PlacesCity and region names, with te reo forms where the brand uses themUse real photos of local work, not stock skylines

Mobile matters more than many owners expect. A large share of local searches happen on phones, often in a hurry, so the click-to-call button, opening hours and map need to be reachable in one tap. We design these first and add the rest of the page around them.

Te reo Māori, macrons and language tags

Many Kiwi brands use a greeting such as kia ora or a place name like Tāmaki Makaurau. Macrons change how a word is read, so they should appear correctly in headings and menus. We choose fonts that include macron characters, set the page language correctly and avoid breaking URLs by keeping slugs in plain letters.

If the brand wants real bilingual content, the wording should be written or approved by a fluent speaker. We do not machine-translate te reo for a published page. We can set up the switcher, language tags and layout so that longer words do not break the design.

Forms, privacy and consent

A contact form collects personal information, so the Privacy Act 2020 applies. The form should say what you will use the details for, and your privacy statement should match. The Office of the Privacy Commissioner offers a free tool to help draft one, and we wire its output into the footer and the form notice.

  • Tick-box consent for newsletters, kept separate from the enquiry, so the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007 is respected.
  • A working unsubscribe link and a visible sender name on every email the site triggers.
  • No pre-ticked boxes, and no analytics tags that you have not described in your policy.
  • Spam protection that does not send form content to services you have not disclosed.

If our team in India sees live form submissions, information privacy principle 12 on disclosure outside New Zealand is relevant. We normally work on test data and agree access in writing. Ask your lawyer to confirm what your situation requires.

Accessibility belongs in the same conversation. Government agencies follow a web accessibility standard, and private sites are not bound by it, but the same basics help every visitor: enough colour contrast, text that resizes, full keyboard use and labelled form fields. We build to WCAG 2.2 AA as a target and test before launch. Our accessibility checklist lists the checks.

How the design project runs

  1. Brief and sitemapA short call covering customers, services, regions and the action you want visitors to take.
  2. Design in the browserKey pages are designed and reviewed on real screens, starting with phones.
  3. Build and contentPages go onto WordPress, Webflow or Next.js, with your copy placed and edited.
  4. Check and launchSpeed, accessibility, forms, redirects and analytics are tested before the switch.

New Zealand is 6.5 or 7.5 hours ahead of India, depending on daylight saving. A 2 pm call in Hamilton is early morning for our team in Pune, and we show progress on screen each week. There is no studio in New Zealand. You get one lead and written summaries.

Price and next steps

Projects start at $1,500 and our rate is $30 an hour, in US dollars. Page count, custom animation, number of languages and whether you supply copy and photos all move the price. Our website cost guide shows the main factors. GST may apply to services supplied in New Zealand, so confirm with your accountant.

If you already have a site, our website redesign service explains how we protect rankings during a rebuild. For the wider picture, see web development in New Zealand.

Questions, answered

How much does website design cost?
Projects start at $1,500. A small brochure site sits near the start of the range. Stores, custom features and many languages cost more, and you get a fixed quote within one working day of a call.
Can the site be bilingual in English and te reo Māori?
Yes. We build the language switcher, set the correct tags and test layouts. The te reo text itself should come from a fluent writer or reviewer on your side.
Do I need a .co.nz domain?
Not strictly, but it tells Kiwi visitors and search engines who the site is for. A .nz domain is open to anyone, so you can register it yourself and keep ownership.
Will the site work well on phones?
Yes. We design for small screens first and test on real devices, because much browsing happens on mobiles.
Who owns the design files and code?
You do. Accounts for hosting, domain and analytics are in your name, and files are handed over at launch.
