In short

Liftup Technologies provides technical SEO for German-facing websites, working remotely from India. The work covers crawl and index audits, hreflang for de-DE, de-AT and de-CH, Core Web Vitals, structured data, JavaScript rendering, redirects for migrations, and analytics set up so that consent rules do not blind your reporting. You get a written audit and a fixed quote within one working day of a short call.

What a technical audit covers for a German site

A technical audit checks whether search engines can reach, render and understand your pages, and whether visitors get them fast. For a German site we add checks that generic audits skip: whether the language and region signals agree, whether consent tools block content that Google needs, and whether legal pages are reachable from every template.

  • Crawl and index status from Google Search Console, server logs where available, and a full crawl.
  • Canonical tags, duplicate parameters and faceted navigation that waste crawl budget.
  • Hreflang pairs that are reciprocal and use the right codes.
  • Core Web Vitals on mobile, measured with field data first and lab data second.
  • Structured data for organization, product, article and breadcrumb, validated against the content on the page.
  • Redirect chains, status codes and the robots.txt file.

You can run a first pass yourself with our technical SEO checklist and the Core Web Vitals check.

Language and region signals

German content serves three countries. A page for Germany uses de-DE, Austria uses de-AT and Switzerland uses de-CH, and each differs in details such as currency, shipping, legal text and, in Switzerland, the absence of the letter ß. If the content is identical across regions, one German version with a sound structure is often simpler than three near-duplicates. If prices, delivery or terms differ, separate versions with hreflang are worth the effort.

SignalWhat to checkCommon German-site problem
HreflangEvery version points to all others and to itselfMissing return tags, or de used where de-DE is meant
Domain structure.de, a /de/ folder or a subdomainMixing structures after a rebrand
Content languageHtml lang attribute and visible text agreeGerman text under an English lang tag
Currency and shippingEuro or Swiss franc, matching the versionAustrian visitors shown German shipping rules
Internal linksGerman pages link to German pagesMenus that jump to the English version

The hreflang generator and the international SEO checklist help you plan this before development starts.

Consent, tracking and reporting

Under the TDDDG, analytics and marketing tags generally need consent before they run. That means a share of German visitors will not appear in your analytics, and a consent banner that loads badly can slow the page or hide content. We test the banner for speed and layout shift, make sure it does not block rendering for Googlebot, and implement Google Consent Mode v2 where you use Google tags. Search Console does not depend on your banner, so we use it as the baseline for organic performance and treat analytics numbers as a floor.

Fonts and scripts hosted on third-party servers are another point. We move fonts to your own server and review embeds, because every third-party call is both a privacy question and a speed cost.

Speed on German mobile networks

German visitors often browse on mobile data with uneven coverage, so Core Web Vitals on mid-range phones matter more than a lab score on a fast laptop. We look at largest contentful paint, interaction responsiveness and layout shift, find the heavy elements, and fix them in order of effect: image formats and sizes, render-blocking scripts, tag manager bloat, and slow server responses. For shops, product listing pages and checkout steps get priority.

Migrations and relaunches

  1. InventoryList every URL that earns traffic or links, with its new destination.
  2. Redirect mapOne-to-one 301 redirects, tested on staging before launch.
  3. Launch checksRobots, canonicals, hreflang, sitemap and analytics verified within hours of go-live.
  4. MonitoringSearch Console and crawl checks for several weeks, with fixes as issues appear.

A change of domain, platform or URL structure is the riskiest moment for organic traffic, and a short audit before launch costs much less than recovering afterwards. See also the website redesign checklist.

Working together and price

You receive a prioritized written audit with each issue, its evidence, the page affected and a recommended fix, and we can implement the fixes or hand the list to your developers. India is 4.5 hours ahead of Germany in winter and 3.5 hours ahead in summer, so reviews are scheduled in your morning. Projects start at $1,500 at $30 an hour, and site size, platform and the number of language versions move the quote. The technical SEO service page describes the general scope.

Questions, answered

Do you need access to our server?
Not always. Search Console, a crawl and your CMS are enough for most audits. Server logs help for large sites, and we ask for them only when useful.
Will fixes break our consent setup?
No. We test every change with the banner active, and consent behavior is checked before and after.
Is hreflang required for a German-only site?
No. It matters when you have several versions of a page for different languages or regions, such as de-DE and de-AT.
Can you work with our developers?
Yes. We write tickets with clear acceptance checks, review the results and re-test after release.
How long until we see results?
Fixes to crawling and indexing can show in Search Console within weeks, while ranking gains depend on competition and take longer. We do not promise specific rankings.
