Website design for florists

Website design for florists that sell on busy days

A florist's year is a handful of enormous days and a long quiet stretch. The website must take orders fast during the peaks and bring in weddings and subscriptions the rest of the year.

In short

Liftup Technologies designs online flower shops and florist websites on Shopify or WooCommerce, with delivery zones by postcode, same-day cut-off times, a sympathy and funeral route, and wedding enquiry pages. The build is planned around Valentine's Day, Mother's Day and the holidays so the shop does not slow down when orders arrive. Projects start at $1,500 with a fixed quote in one working day.

How people buy flowers online

A flower order usually starts with an occasion and a deadline: a birthday tomorrow, a funeral on Friday, an anniversary tonight. The buyer is often on a phone, often stressed, and often buying for someone in another town. The first thing they want to know is whether you can deliver to that address on that day.

So the delivery question comes before the browsing. We put a postcode or ZIP checker near the top of the shop, show the cut-off time for same-day delivery, and display the delivery fee before checkout. A visitor who learns at the last step that you do not deliver to their recipient does not come back.

Photos carry the sale. Bouquets are bought by eye, so each product page needs clean, consistent photographs, a list of what is in the arrangement, and an honest note that stems may be substituted when a flower is out of season.

Two more details help. Show the cut-off clock in the visitor's local time, since people often order from another time zone for a relative abroad. And keep a plain-text card message field with a character limit, because a handwritten-style card is part of the product and florists end up retyping messages by hand when the field is missing.

The peaks that decide your year

Dates differ by country, and the shop should be ready weeks ahead of each one.

OccasionWhere it fallsWhat the website must do
Valentine's Day14 February everywherePre-order with a delivery date picker, stock limits per day, a simple limited menu of bouquets
Mother's DaySecond Sunday of May in the US and Australia; Mothering Sunday in March in the UK and IrelandA dedicated landing page by country, early order cut-off, card message field
ChristmasDecemberWreaths and table pieces, delivery slots, clear last-order dates
Sympathy and funeralAll year, unplannedA separate route with a short form for service details and a phone number that is answered
WeddingsSpring to autumn, planned a year aheadGallery, packages, a consultation booking form, not a shopping cart
Corporate and subscriptionsWeekly or monthlyRecurring order setup with an invoice option

We test the shop with a load simulation before the first big date, so a spike in visitors does not slow checkout.

Platform and tools

For most florists we use Shopify or WooCommerce. Shopify is quicker to launch and handles traffic spikes with little tuning. WooCommerce suits shops that need a very custom delivery-slot setup. Our Shopify development page explains where it fits.

Shops that take orders by wire service, such as Interflora in the UK or FTD in the US, can keep that arrangement. The website then covers direct orders, where you keep the margin and the customer relationship.

We also add Google Business Profile links, product schema so bouquets can show price and availability in search, and a photo upload tool for the florist to add new seasonal arrangements in minutes.

Everything else on the site supports the shop: a short about page with your team and workshop, an area page for each town you serve, and a care guide for popular flowers. The care guide cuts support calls and gives search engines useful pages. For the main service this builds on, see our website design overview.

How we run the project

  1. Plan around your calendarWe pick a launch date well ahead of your next peak, not the week before.
  2. Set up the catalogBouquet templates, add-ons such as vases, chocolates or balloons, and delivery zones.
  3. Design and buildA mobile-first shop with weekly demo links.
  4. Test real ordersTest purchases across zones, cut-off times and payment methods.
  5. Train the teamYour staff learn to add products, mark sold-out items and change cut-offs.

We work remotely from Pune and call you before the shop opens or after it closes, whichever suits your day.

After launch we check order emails, delivery-slot counts and checkout speed during your first real peak, and we stay reachable by message that week for urgent fixes.

What it costs

Projects start at $1,500 and our rate is $30 an hour. A small brochure site for a wedding florist with a gallery and enquiry form can stay near the minimum. A full online shop with delivery zones, date picker, add-ons and subscriptions needs more build time, and the fixed quote reflects that. Payment processing fees and the Shopify plan are separate. Our Shopify store cost page shows the usual yearly costs.

Questions, answered

Can customers pick a delivery date and time slot?
Yes. We add a date picker with limits per day, so you do not take more orders than your van can deliver.
Can I keep taking orders by phone?
Yes. The site shows your number prominently for sympathy and urgent orders, and staff can create orders in the admin for phone customers.
What about flower substitutions?
We add a short note on each product page and at checkout that explains how substitutions work, written in your voice.
Do you build wedding enquiry pages?
Yes. Wedding work is a consultation sale, so the pages use a gallery, packages and an enquiry form instead of a cart.
Can I take subscriptions for weekly flowers?
Yes. Both platforms support recurring orders with an extension, and we set the delivery day rules with you.
