In short
Website design for an online course covers the sales page, curriculum preview, checkout and the learning area where students return. Liftup Technologies builds on WordPress with LMS plugins, Webflow, or custom stacks, and can connect hosted platforms such as Teachable or Kajabi. Projects start at $1,500, with a fixed quote within one working day of a short call.
Three jobs, one site
A course site does three different jobs. It persuades a stranger to buy, it delivers lessons to a student, and it keeps that student active until they finish. Many creators design only the first and leave the others to a platform default, then wonder why completion and refunds are poor.
Persuasion needs a clear promise, a visible outcome, proof and a low-risk first step. Delivery needs a calm, simple learning space. Retention needs reminders, progress marks and a path to the next product.
Launch timing shapes the build. Many creators open enrollment a few times a year and drive traffic from email and social channels during short windows. The site must handle a spike in visitors, a countdown or waitlist, and a clean close of the cart without confusing people who arrive late.
Evergreen courses behave differently. They sell all year from search, ads or a free lead magnet, so the funnel, email sequence and tracking matter more than a launch calendar.
The sales page that works
| Section | What it answers | Typical content |
|---|---|---|
| Promise | What will I be able to do? | One clear outcome and who it is for |
| Curriculum | What exactly is inside? | Modules, lesson count, formats, total time |
| Instructor | Why should I trust you? | Real experience, credentials, student examples |
| Free preview | Can I try it? | Sample lesson, workbook or email mini-course |
| Price and refund | What is the risk? | Price, payment plan, refund policy in plain terms |
| FAQ | What stops me buying? | Time needed, skill level, access length, support |
| Call to action | What is next? | One button repeated, not many choices |
Testimonials help only if they are real and permitted. Do not invent them or exaggerate student results. Income and outcome claims draw regulator attention. The FTC in the US has guidance on earnings claims and endorsements. Check the rules where your students live.
Platform choice
The platform decision shapes everything else. Hosted platforms such as Teachable, Thinkific, Kajabi and Podia are fast to launch and handle video, payments and email in one place, with monthly fees and limited design freedom. A self-hosted setup, for example WordPress with an LMS plugin, gives control of branding, data and cost per student but needs maintenance.
- Choose a hosted platform if you want to launch quickly and your course is the whole business.
- Choose WordPress or a custom build if you want your own brand, memberships, community or several products in one place.
- Choose a hybrid, with a custom marketing site and a hosted course area, if you want design freedom without running a learning system.
We do not push one tool. Our WordPress development service covers LMS builds, and we also integrate hosted platforms.

Video is the heaviest part. Use a host that streams adaptive quality, protects against casual sharing and supports captions. Captions and transcripts help students learn and meet accessibility expectations. Our WCAG checklist covers the basics.
A good student area shows progress, remembers the last lesson and works on a phone. Downloads, quizzes and certificates should be simple to find. A weekly email nudge that says what to do next improves completion more than a complex dashboard.
Checkout, tax and legal points
Selling digital products across borders brings tax questions. VAT and GST rules for digital goods differ in the UK, EU, Australia and Ireland, and some US states collect sales tax on digital products. Payment providers such as Stripe and PayPal, and merchant-of-record services like Paddle or Lemon Squeezy, handle part of this. Ask your accountant which model suits you.
Terms should cover access length, refunds, sharing of materials and any cooling-off rights, which apply in the UK and EU for digital content. Check with your lawyer.
