Why WordPress still fits many French sites

WordPress runs a large share of the web, and French agencies, publishers and shops use it widely. Its strengths are that your team can edit content without code, plugins cover most needs, and you are never locked in to a vendor. Its weakness is upkeep: a site left alone for a year collects outdated plugins, slow pages and security holes.

WooCommerce gives full control over product types, shipping rules and checkout. For France that usually means shipping zones for metropolitan France and overseas territories, pickup points, and rates for carriers such as Colissimo or Mondial Relay. We also set up the order emails with the legal information a French consumer expects, and make sure the checkout states clearly that the order creates an obligation to pay.

The 14-day withdrawal right applies to most distance sales to consumers in the EU, so the returns page must be easy to find and linked from the checkout. Ask your adviser about exceptions for custom or perishable goods. Where a store grows quickly, Shopify may be easier to run, and we are happy to tell you if that is the case.

Speed, security and accessibility

• Speed: image sizes, caching, fewer scripts and a theme without heavy builders. Slow pages cost both rankings and orders, and the Core Web Vitals checklist is our reference.
• Security: updates, limited admin accounts, two-factor login, backups you can restore and a plan for what happens if the site is hacked. The WordPress security checklist lists the items.
• Accessibility: WCAG 2.2 AA is the target, which helps with the RGAA and with the European Accessibility Act that has applied since 28 June 2025 to many shops and consumer services.
• Data: plugins that send visitor data to third parties are listed in your privacy policy, and removed if you do not need them.

Hosting and domain accounts stay in your name, and code is delivered to your repository.

Your hosting, premium plugin licences and payment fees are paid directly to their providers. A fixed monthly maintenance routine is optional, but we recommend a simple one: updates, backups and a speed check, with a short written report each month.
