Why Spain needs its own Shopify setup

A Shopify store copied from a US template looks fine until the first Spanish customer reaches checkout. Prices appear without IVA, the shipping options do not fit, the cookie banner blocks nothing, and the checkout text mixes English and Spanish. Those are the details that cost orders and draw complaints.

The Spanish store setup, step by step

Shopify's help center has the current instructions for tax, markets and checkout settings, and we follow it rather than workarounds.

Order confirmation emails, invoices and returns emails are customer-facing documents. We translate and test each one with a real order. If you need formal invoices that match Spanish accounting rules, discuss that with your gestor before launch, because it can change which apps you need.

Carriers and delivery expectations

Spanish shoppers know Correos, SEUR, GLS, MRW and Correos Express, and many like pickup points. Whether an app, a carrier plugin or a manual rate works best depends on your volume and ship-from location. We connect the one that fits and test label printing and tracking emails in Spanish.

• Show the real delivery time range on the product page, not just at checkout.
• Offer pickup points only if your carrier contract includes them.
• State islands surcharges before the final payment step.
• Write the returns instructions as steps, with who pays for the return.

Speed matters here too. Spanish shoppers browse on mobile and abandon slow pages, so we limit apps, optimize images and check the store with the same performance tools Google publishes. Each app adds scripts, so we install only what the store needs.

Consent, privacy and accessibility

The AEPD enforces GDPR, the LOPDGDD and the cookie rules in LSSI-CE. We configure the consent banner so marketing pixels and analytics wait for consent, then test it with the network panel instead of trusting the setting. The European Accessibility Act applies from 28 June 2025 to many online shops, so we build to WCAG 2.2 AA and check forms, colour contrast and keyboard use. Your lawyer decides what applies to you.

Spain is three and a half hours behind India in summer and four and a half in winter. Demos are held in your morning, usually before 14:00.

We also train whoever will run the store day to day: adding products, creating discount codes, handling returns and reading the sales report. A store that only we can change is a poor handover.

Price

Projects start at $1,500, and extra work is $30 an hour. The number of products, custom features and languages move the price. Shopify's own plan fee, any paid apps and payment provider fees are separate from our project price. We list the expected monthly costs in the quote so the full running cost is visible before you decide.
